How do I get photo effects like this?

Draco Malf

I was wondering how people got vintage, artsy effects to their photos like this:

Like does there (non-smartphone) camera do this or do you have to do this on the computer for such effects?

Thanks!

Answer
Photographs can be taken from any camera, it's just the editing which the person has done in the list of links you have provided. You can edit in Adobe Photoshop and use Actions on them. Or alternatively you can use some apps for editing in your phone:

snapseed
pixable
pixlr
Befunky photo editor

If you want a free software to edit photographs then go for Gimp, it's a great piece and is free.

I want my pictures to look vintage-y but also tumblr like ? Thanks in advance

Answer
I understand "vintage-y", but what is "tumblr like"????
There is such a huge assorment of ..... ummm..... of...... "stuff" on tumblr, there is NO telling what you're talking about.

One of the current fads is wanting to go back to a retro/vintage look.
I just used the search box here on YA and came up with tons of answers - this is a VERY common question http://answers.yahoo.com/search/search_result;_ylt=AjPUUnHKjO7AOTd3hb8UY8UjzKIX?fr=uh3_answers_vert_gs&type=2button&p=photo%20retro%20vintage

There are plenty of websites with ready made click-of-a-button functions, they make it very simple to understand for anybody at all. Or if you feel up to a bit of a challenge, you could spend the time to learn how to do it properly, either from scratch or with the help of a plug-in and/or action. Quite often, it is simply a case of lowering saturation and contrast to give it that slightly hazy "vintage" look.

First of all, consider the advantages of resident programs over using websites.
Keep in mind that you only have to install a program once, yet if you use a website, you have to first upload each and every photo, work it, then download each one again. MUCH more up and downloading in the long run, and when your internet is down, you have nothing. If you only want to edit a few photos, websites are ok, but if you have more, then resident programs are much better.
Don't expect instant perfection - depending on what you want to do and how GOOD you need it to look, it can take years to acquire those skills.

The best programs are Adobe Photoshop (expensive, but it IS the king), or its smaller cousin, Photoshop Elements (way cheaper and still very good!).

If the program HAS to be free, here are some good choices:

The Gimp. It is very good, especially for the "price". http://www.gimp.org/
Paint.net - not to be confused with Microsoft's "Paint" program! http://www.paint.net/
Photoscape - can't do everything, but quite adequate for the average user:
http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/index.php

If you insist on a free website:
http://www.picture2life.com/ or http://fotoflexer.com/.
If you want something more capable, try http://pixlr.com/ or http://www.sumopaint.com/web/

What are some good iPhone apps for vintage feel or professional looking pictures?

I'm looking for some apps that are similar to VSCO Cam, AfterLight, PixlrOMatic, and Diptic... I really love how my pictures look when they have that vintage look to them. I have an Instagram, and I know about apps like CamWow, Camera+, etc. I'm just looking for some apps similar to these that allow a lot of different, high quality customization.

I'm also looking for an app that has really cool shaped frames and kinda like a mirror effect with your images.

If anyone can help me out here, it would be greatly appreciated. :)

Answer
It should have this app called 'Safari'. From there you can buy a real camera.

Kidding aside, there's no way to get 'professional looking' pictures from an iPhone. If all you want to do is add filters, then Instagram and Hipstamatic are the most common.

Chances are, any good, vintage looking photos you've seen Tumblr and other sites were taken with a real camera and edited with real software like Photoshop.

How do you make your pictures on instagram look faded?

Jazlyn

Just a simple fade to make it look vintage. I see it a lot on ig

Answer
just play around with the different filters and see which one looks vintage. if you see it a lot, it's probably a filter on instagram, but if you can't find it, you can always try one of the many photo-editing apps from the app store.

What editor apps are best for making vintage pictures?

Cynthia

I have an Instagram, but I noticed some people's pictures go beyond Instagram's editing on there. Does anyone know of any great apps for it?
here's a link to the kind I'm talking about, I guess it's not exactly vintage but yeah.
