Are macbook pro and iPad the same thing or is there a difference?

I really want to get an iPad but i already have a macbook,, will the iPad be useful to me or is it unnecessary since i have a macbook?

Answer
iPad is not intended to replace computer in anyway.it's however does a lot of things which a computer does and surprisingly it does better and faster.

But if your work are very complicated like professional video editing, creating a complex PowerPoint presentation, storing heavy data, using as server, running software and different plug Ins, then iPad won't be a right choice.

There is another side of it

If your works are not very complicated and you only create simple to medium level word document, complicated but not overly complicated spreadsheet and gorgeous PowerPoint presentation ,then iPad is better than any computer hands down.

iPad also comes handy if you understand cloud or WebDAV server storage because the time , computer takes to boot ,is enough for an iPad to upload the documents to all the WebDAV server and make them available to every computer in the world with great security.

If you use iPad heavily like me then battery lasts for approx 15 hours which is incredible. It's so light weight that I take it everywhere.
In my case, it has replaced my MacBook pro. I don't carry my laptop anymore. If my work is so complicated I access my home comp which is iMac or my office computer (IBM) from iPad.

But iPad is good enough for my everyday work like word document, spreadsheet and PowerPoint presentation.

On computer, you do everything through browser, on iPad everything is done through apps. That's the difference.

For example :

If you wanna download a video on computer, you would go to website and download it.

On iPad , install an app like GoodReader , then keep downloading any video you want.

But one negative, PC downloads viruses, spywares, adwares with the video for FREE but iPad won't download them, it downloads only the content you want.

Another minus point is,

When you watch movie online on a windows based PC, you get lot of pop ups and add banners, but on iPad , you just watch movie without any free pop ups.

Lot of people are crying over lack of flash support. But for me lack of flash support is the only reason why I love iPad because I hate flash based pop pad and add banners. I love watching movie on iPad online it's so amazing that you feel you are watching a DVD.

If by any chance you like reading and gaming then it's a blessing. I was never a reader but now I love reading books.iPad has made me organized and insanely fast.
On many occasion, I used to think ok , I will do it when I start the computer and sometimes I used to forget things. Now iPad takes care of every activities.
I connect my SLR camera directly to iPad and imports not only photos but also HD video and edit right on it and of course upload to many sites at high resolution.

So get the iPad ...it's spectacular, it's amazing , it's revolutionary.

Is my macbook broken or should I upgrade my RAM?

Cosmo

10 months ago I received a late 2011 13" macbook pro, i7, 4gb RAM and 750gb hard drive. Ever since I started using my laptop it has been slow and laggy. I have the app Freememory and I rarely have more than 1gb free of 4 gb. I never run more than three apps at a time because it becomes unbearable, usually I only have safari running. I always quit apps I'm not using. I have final cut pro, appature, pages, keynote geek tool and stuff. Everyday I deal with the beach ball, or ball of death etc. Most of the time I have to force quit apps. Apps take sometimes longer than ten bounces to open, apps like mail and iTunes. I don't try to do everything very fast, I just let it sort itself out usually.
Every time I use my computer it has a breakdown where the screen starts flickering or occasionally green squares and pixels appear on the screen.
My computer always takes about 10 secs after I open it to start working.
Despite all this I have only maybe once or twice had apps crash, and I don't think my computer itself has ever crashed.
I am planning to put in 16gb of ram because I can't go on like this, I do video editing, music engineering, photo editing, movie ripping and photoshop.
I have apple care protection plan on my laptop.
Is there anything I can do or shall I talk to apple?

Answer
"video editing, music engineering, photo editing, movie ripping and photoshop"

I am concerned that you are using a large amount of memory and processing power. FreeBSD (the root of MacOS) and other Unix OSs like it, are very capable at sharing processing power and memory between applications. However, in loaded conditions, as you are describing, you can have some serious issues.

You can try a few diagnostics to get a feel for things. If you are comfortable at the prompt, tools like "top" and "procrank" can tell you which applications are using a lot of memory.

But the best choice is this: completely reboot the machine, and then see how it responds, without doing any of the other apps (video editing, music engineering). Is safari responsive under those conditions?

Try to determine if the apps run at powerup. Are they already taking up your memory as soon as they load?

This can lead you to the answer... which I may be able to guide you towards, below.

1) If the device is sluggish after a full reset, but the apps that you are using are NOT preloaded, then there is a serious problem with the machin.
2) if the device is sluggish after a full reset, but the apps ARE being preloaded to some degree, then yes memory can help.
3) if the device is very fast after a full reset, but then after using a few of your key applications it becomes sluggish again then yes, memory can help.

Hope that helps. I've worked with systems that operate under high load, and it is not fun. Memory CAN help, but there are also some applications that will take as much memory as you can give. If you determine that you need memory, and go that route, only to find that now with 10 Gigs of RAM you are still losing your memory, you need to do a better job of finding out WHICH applications are taking the memory, and switching vendors for those apps.

Good Luck!
