What will happen if I sync my iPod Touch to my laptop that was restored to factory settings?

I had a virus and had no choice but to restore my computer back to factory settings. If I try to sync my iPod Touch will I lose everything? How can I stop this from happening? Before this laptop I had a desktop and I had to sync my iPod Touch to my new laptop and I did it without losing anything but forgot completely how to do it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance :)

I've redownloaded all the same apps but I'm afraid that if I sync it to this new library that all my progress (from like Angry Birds and Cut the Rope) will be deleted. Is that going to happen?
