My iPhone 3G keeps saying "This Accessory Is not Made to work with iPhone", but there is no accessory plugged in. It will not make any of the normal sound effects, and if I plug headphones or speakers they work fine. I've restarted it several times now, and nothing is fixing it. Any ideas??
Answer
You may have some debris on the 30-pin connector at the bottom of the iPhone. Either blow into the bottom or use compressed air to clean it out. MAKE VERY SURE that if you do so, do not spit into the bottom nor have any liquid come out of the compressed air, because it could get in contact with the LDI(liquid damage indicator) and void your warranty.
If that doesn't correct the issue, export your contacts, calendars, photos, notes, music and apps(that aren't already on your computer) and restore the iPhone as new.
If you're still having issues, you're looking at a hardware issue and may need to look at a replacement. If you're still under some kind of warranty(be it your 1 year or AppleCare) then it will be of no cost to you, so long as there's not already liquid damage or other physical damage. If you're not within a warranty or there is physical damage, the cost of repair is $199.
