I want to post good quality pictures on Tumblr. I only have an iPhone 5 camera as my choice.

is there a photo editing app that can make the quality better? or make it look a lot more professional?

Answer
There are tons of great photo apps for the iPhone and iPad.

Photo Editor - Snapseed is a comprehensive photo app that you'll wind up using every day. Photoshop mobile is another editor to consider. And Befunky is great too with the addition of more fun editing features.

Swap Photo Parts - With Juxtaposer you can take one part from one photograph and add that part into a second photo. With FACE SWITCH you can do just that, switch faces between multiple photos.

Panoramic Photos - Pano features the ability to take 360-degree panoramas using up to sixteen photos with a semi-transparent guide helps you line up each shot perfectly. With Pano's alignment tools, blending, and colour-correction algorithms provide you can really get seamless images in just seconds - I have been amazed.

Text on Photos - Photophrase blends beautiful typography with pictures to create unique images you can share. You can use Photophrase for photo captioning, photo sharing, and just plain photo fun.

Funny Faces - Faceship offers tons of face-changing effects! Besides the TinyFace, effects include a bubbleface, square head, nerd glasses (with enlarged eyeballs!), catface, the best moustache ever, some crazy mirror effects, horrible zits, sad face and happy faces, fat neck, and a bunch more. Another option is PhotoGoo which lets you turn your photos to Goo! Create funny facial expressions from your friends faces.

Un-crop - If you've ever taken a hasty photo on your phone and didn't leave enough room on the outside, AntiCrop is the app can uncrop those photos by filling in the edges with just a few swipes.

Is it dangerous to post photos on the net without editing?

Emily

hi. I'm talking about iphones and digital cameras and cellphones.
I have a few cats in my house and i often take photos of them for my blog.
Since I'm not good at editing photos, i often post their photos without editing anything.
Then a friend of mine told me that i should use photoshop or some tool and edit each photo otherwise someone could get some info's about where I live.

Is that true? I've heard about GPS thingy and such but not sure how it's possible.
Should I edit each photo before I post it online?

Answer
What your friend is referring to is called EXIF data. Depending on the phone/camera/format, it may store information such as GPS (geolocation) and time taken.

Here's a list of some of the attributes that are listed in the EXIF data:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exchangeable_image_file_format#Example

Here's a website you can upload your pictures to if you want to see what EXIF data is available:
http://regex.info/exif.cgi

How to disable geo-tagging on an iPhone:

1. Turn on your iPhone, and select "Settings" from the menu screen.

2. Press "General," and then select "Reset."

3. Select the "Reset Location Warnings" option.

4. Press "Reset Warnings."

5. Press and open your camera application on the menu screen. Select "Don't Allow" when prompted.

The founder of imgur (honestly, the best image hosting service online) supports privacy and one of his main reasons for creating the imgur service was to help people maintain their privacy when posting images - Imgur.com strips out exif data of all images uploaded to it.

There's also an imgur apps for mobile:
iPhone: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/imgurapp/id501416446?mt=8
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.imgurforandroid&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5pbWd1cmZvcmFuZHJvaWQiXQ..

Hope this helps

The iPod touch is a portable media player and Wi-Fi mobile platform designed and marketed by Apple Inc. The product was launched on September 5, 2007 through an event called The Beat Goes On.[1] The iPod touch adds the Multi-Touch graphical user interface to the iPod line and is available with 8, 16, or 32 GB of flash memory. It includes Apple's Safari web browser and is the first iPod with wireless access to the iTunes Store.[2] In late June 2008, The iPod touch will also have access to the App Store for an upgrade fee.[3]

The iPod touch has the iPhone's multi-touch interface, with a physical home button off the touch screen. The home screen has a list of buttons for the available applications. All iPod touch models have included the applications Music, Videos, and Photos (collectively duplicating the standard functions of the iPod classic), iTunes (providing access to the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store), Safari, YouTube, Calendar, Contacts, Clock, Calculator, and Settings. Later models added Mail (accessing POP/IMAP/SMTP e-mail), Maps, Stocks, Notes, and Weather,[4] which could also be added to the earlier models with the purchase of a software upgrade. Direct links to web sites can be added to the home screen by the user.

[edit] Requirements
As supplied new, the iPod touch needs a connection to a computer for initial configuration.[5] Officially, Apple requires iTunes to be installed on either a Mac OS X or Windows operating system based computer for configuring the iPod touch. On either operating system, the iPod touch must be connected through a USB 2.0 port on the computer.[6] The first time the iPod touch is turned on, a "cable to iTunes" graphic will be displayed continuously until the iPod touch is connected to a computer running iTunes.[7]

To use the iPod touch for buying products at the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store via Wi-Fi, an iTunes Store account must be created in iTunes and the account details then entered into the iPod.[8]

Apple states that the following is required for the iPod touch:[6]

A computer running either:
Mac OS X 10.4.10 or later
Microsoft Windows XP with SP2 or later, or Vista (32 or 64-bit versions)[9][8]
iTunes 7.6 or later (7.4 and 7.5 support only 32-bit XP/Vista)
Available USB 2.0 port

[edit] Models
Generation Image Capacity Color Connection (for syncing) Original release date Minimum OS to sync Rated battery life (hours)
First 8 GB black USB 2.0 (FireWire for charging only) 5 September 2007 Mac: 10.4.10
Win: XP SP2/SP3, Vista RTM/SP1 audio: 22
video: 5
16 GB
32 GB 5 February 2008

The iPod touch is equipped with Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, and, like the iPhone, includes the Safari browser and a viewing client for YouTube. The device's Wi-Fi capabilities can also be used to buy music from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store. Also like the iPhone, the iPod touch currently does not support the 802.1X authentication method, making connectivity to certain private networks impossible, even when authorized. The iPod touch 2.0 Software Update will support WPA2 Enterprise with 802.1X authentication.[10]

[edit] Third-party applications

Jailbroken iPod touch, running firmware version 1.1.1.Shortly after the iPod touch was released (firmware release 1.1.1), hackers were able to "jailbreak" the device through a TIFF exploit. The resulting application, "Installer.app," enabled the user to download a selection of unofficial third-party programs. Some of these give the user more control over the iPod touch than is officially available. Servicing an iPod touch after jailbreaking or other modifications made by unofficial means is not covered by Apple's warranty.

A software development kit was officially announced on March 6, 2008, at an Apple Town Hall meeting.[11] The SDK will allow developers to make applications for the iPhone and iPod touch after paying a fee to join the development team. The developer can then set the price for the applications they develop and will receive 70% of the sale price after each one is sold in the exclusive App Store. The developer can also opt to release the application for free and will not pay any additional costs. The SDK is available immediately, while the launch of applications will require waiting until a firmware update in July 2008. This update will be free for iPhone users, while users of the iPod touch will be charged an upgrade fee of $9.95.[citation needed]

[edit] Comparisons to the iPhone
The iPod touch is slimmer and lighter than the iPhone. It lacks some of the iPhone's features: access to any phone network, an internal speaker, a microphone, a camera, physical buttons for volume control, and Bluetooth capability. The iPod touch uses software-based volume controls which require users to double-tap the home button, bringing up an on-screen slider.

[edit] Early screen problems

Although screen breakages are significantly rare, the large display still presents such risks.A number of early adopters complained that the screen could not properly display shades of black. The problem has been attributed to poor quality control and the misapplication of the reflective coating on the LCD.[12] The defect caused the screen to have a very narrow optimal viewing angle and also resulted in "shimmering" blacks. This screen problem was later addressed with the firmware update 1.1.1, with mixed results.[13] Apple has replaced iPod Touches with persistently defective screens.

The specifications as listed on Apple's website are:[6][14]

questions about the htc hd2?

McKinley

i'm thinking about buying this phone, but i have some questions about it, and after searching on the net and not coming up with anything clear, i figured i'd turn to answers.

with t-mo, it says you need a data plan, but they're vague on what for. texting? the internet? email? SMS?

i won't be using the internet on it, or email. but just out of curiosity, if i wanted to, and i bought one of those pay as you go cards, just for the net, would it work?

also, does this phone have wifi?

do you need the internet to access/use any apps that you download, and are most apps compatible with this phone?

anyone who has this phone, do ya like it?

anyone who has a website that would answer these, you could just link me there, so you don;t have to actually answer any of the questions. it will still count as you answering them.

Answer
Well I am not sure about the Data plan. But what I do know from using this phone, is that it is big and heavy. Yes it does have Wi-fi. Well it depends what Applications you download. Some applications do require the internet while others don't. And you cant just download any apps from internet. You have to download apps Specifically for this phone, or you can go to the Windows MarketPlace app (which is already on the phone) and download the Apps straight from their. Some Apps are quite expensive. The one bad thing about this phone is that you are unable to upgrade to the upcoming windows 7 mobile OS, and the HTC HD 2 does not video record in HD like how most of its rivals do. Please make sure you contact T-mobile for more info on their data plan. Also please read detailed specifications of this phone, like on this site:http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_hd2-2957.php
In this site you can also compare this to its rivals or other phones you are interested in getting. Make sure you read the review, ALL the pages here:http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_hd2-review-418.php

If you cant access that site, then the Main disadvantages of this phone you NEED to know are:
It's a pretty large phone
Poor sunlight legibility
65K color limitation of display has color gradients banding
Card slot under the battery cover
Disappointing photo and video quality
No dedicated camera key and no lens cover
No DivX/XviD video support out-of-the-box
Preloaded CoPilot Live navigation software is a trial version
No secondary video-call camera
No voice dialing
No handwriting recognition
Dodgy web Flash support

But this doesn't mean its a bad phone. It is still one of the best available. The applications it already has are GREAT! The HTC HD2 comes with plenty of preloaded applications - an RSS Reader, MP3 Trimmer, HTC Peep, Facebook, Bing, Wi-Fi Router, World Card Mobile, Jetcet Print, a YouTube application and a Streaming Media manager. The RSS Hub app is an RSS reader for staying up-to-date with the latest news and content at your favorite web places. The Streaming Media manager allows access to custom sources of streaming audio and video. The Facebook and Peep are the official mobile apps for accessing the popular social networks of Facebook and Twitter. You can do almost everything with them - change status, write posts, upload photos or organize albums, stay connected to your friends and all that stuff. As we mentioned before, there is complete Facebook integration with the new phonebook. When you link a Facebook profile to a contact you can view its status message, updates and online albums directly in the Contact manager.HTC Peep works directly in the Twitter tab, so you won't need to run it from the Start menu. The Wi-Fi router allows you to share your HSPA connection to other Wi-Fi enabled devices such as a mobile computer, while the Jetcet Print will let you to print documents wirelessly directly from your HD2.WorldCard Mobile is a business card scanner. You can capture cards, and then edit or save them.HTC HD2 also ships with the MP3 Trimmer app. It allows you to crop MP3 tracks to make your own ringtones. Another goodie is the Remote Desktop Mobile client. It allows you to connect remotely to any Windows-based computer. The YouTube application is here again. It offers a fluid, excellent looking interface - shinier than even the iPhone's.ETC.........
Hope this helped. Good luck.

How to upload photos directly to Instagram from iPhone 4s photo album?

photo sharing applications on iphone on ... the iPhones unveiling, but that the device was ultimately shelved
photo sharing applications on iphone image

Jonsi

Hello,
I have iPhone 4S,iOS7.And i want to upload directly from photo album to Instagram. But when I click on share there are only iCloud,Flickr,Tweeter, etc, but not Instagram. And I know that it is possible to enter Instagram site and from there upload. But Is there another way where I don't need to enter Instagram, just direcly upload picture to instagram?
Thank you

Answer
I do not use any of this stuff, so I may be all wrong, but I thought Instagram was an app you loaded into the phone first, and when that is done, it should be no problem to put the photos into Instagram. I don't think you can just go to the site and send photos from your phone without having the application in the phone itself. If you have the Instagram app, I would think that when you click share, Instagram would be one of the choices, along with iCloud, Flickr etc.

Again, this is hardly an area of knowledge with me, just taking a best guess.

With the new Apple iPhone 3G coming out does this make my iPhone obsolete now? Software updates?

30 best iphone photo apps on 30 Club 1.3.7 App for iPad, iPhone - Music - app by MobBase ,best app ...
30 best iphone photo apps image

Joe K

Is Apple planning on updating the existing customers that have the iPhone to the new 3G's capabilities or are we so to say screwed?

Answer
No, your original iPhone is not obsolete. In early July Software Update 2.0 will be available to the original iPhone. The update will include: The Apps Store, Enterprise support with remote wipe, iWork support, MS Office support, MobileMe support (the new .mac), mass email move and delete, contacts search, more languages, and a scientific calculator when in landscape orientation.

Here's what you won't have: You won't get data service at twice the speed, but at a cost of twice the battery drain and an extra $10 per month and you'll have to pay another $5 a month to retain 200 SMS messages. You won't have an Assisted-GPS built-in showing your exact position and live tracking, but with the original at least you have a general location finder. You won't have improved audio. You won't have geo tagging on your photos. You won't have the improved camera software with improved images. You won't have a missing dock. Since there are several different docks available now, I guess it's a personal choice which one, but the docks probably range between $30 to $50. Lastly, in order to allow better reception for GPS, the metal back was changed to plastic. I prefer the metal.

In order to get 3G and/or GPS on the original iPhone, it would have to be taken apart and have a 3G radio chip and GPS added. Too much trouble and too expensive.

Personally I am still satisfied with my original iPhone. I can wait for the next version to come out. I also think the original iPhone will retain their value for awhile because T-Mobile has not launched a 3G network yet and the iPhone 3G won't operate on the the same frequencies. AT&T uses 1900 and 2100 MHz, while T-Mobile uses 1700 and 2100 MHz. So unless those T-Mobile subscribers want an iPhone with GPS, they won't be able to get 3G service. It's also yet to be determined if the iPhone 3G can be unlocked or if it can, how long it will take.

By the way, the iPhone 3G is a bit thicker in the center with tapered edges and just a tad lighter due to the plastic back.

Why should I buy an iTouch 4 instead of the 2nd generation?

LoveMeOrHa

I need a real tech geek to sell me on this. I can get the iTouch 2nd generation at best buy for, like, 180. But, I figured I might as well spend the extra 30 for the brand new 4th generation. HOWEVER, i want to make sure it's a 30 bucks well spent. So, tell me what makes the 4th generation so special. 'Cause honestly, I just want something to listen to music on.

Thank you!

Answer
of course! get the fourth one. It has a built in video camera in the front and the back of it so you can facetime (video chat) with anybody else who has an itouch 4 or an iphone 4 and take photos and videos. Also, if you buy a second generation it wont have the newest iOS (newest software installed) onto it. The iOS on the itouch 4 can put a background on which the ipod 2nd gen. can't do. Also, it has a higher retina display (more HD) than the 2nd gen. In addition it also has a built in microphone and speaker in it so you don't have to wear that obnoxious headphones with a mic to go on skype. Internally, the 8 GB configuration of the iPod touch 2nd Gen has a 533 MHz Samsung ARM and 128 MB of RAM, the 32 GB and 64 GB configurations of the iPod touch 2nd Gen have an 800 MHz Samsung ARM processor and 256 MB of RAM, and the iPod touch 4th Gen models, regardless of capacity, have a variable clockspeed Apple A4 processor running in the 700 MHz to 800 MHz range and 256 MB of RAM (this makes the iPod 4 run apps more quicker than the iPod 2).Maximum battery life for the iPod touch 2nd Gen models officially is 30 hours for music playback whereas it is 40 hours for the iPod touch 4th Gen models. For video playback, the 2nd Gen models officially provide six hours of runtime and the 4th Gen provide seven.

Answer
Citrify, iPiccy, PicMonkey, Ribbet, FotoFlexer or Lunapic are great all round web based and FREE editing tools. Adobe, makers of the expensive Photoshop, has a free website version in Photoshop Express.

If you are a former Picnik user than Picmonkey and Ribbet will be your best choices.

If you need/want more features downloading GIMP is a great options. Still free, but you have to download the software.

There are also free tools to add text blurbs, to make collages, to put your photo into other images. There are a number of tools that allow you to put the image of a face into other photos for some fun creations.

What are some good iPhone apps for vintage feel or professional looking pictures?

Charity

I'm looking for some apps that are similar to VSCO Cam, AfterLight, PixlrOMatic, and Diptic... I really love how my pictures look when they have that vintage look to them. I have an Instagram, and I know about apps like CamWow, Camera+, etc. I'm just looking for some apps similar to these that allow a lot of different, high quality customization.

I'm also looking for an app that has really cool shaped frames and kinda like a mirror effect with your images.

If anyone can help me out here, it would be greatly appreciated. :)

Answer
It should have this app called 'Safari'. From there you can buy a real camera.

Kidding aside, there's no way to get 'professional looking' pictures from an iPhone. If all you want to do is add filters, then Instagram and Hipstamatic are the most common.

Chances are, any good, vintage looking photos you've seen Tumblr and other sites were taken with a real camera and edited with real software like Photoshop.

A iPhone App creator is predominate featuring my photos in one of their apps are is being sold. I was not informed or asked if I would mind if my photos could be used. Are they allowed to sell my photography in an app without my permission?
Jeff

Answer
The most important aspect you left out of this question is exactly what type of Creative Commons license you registered your photos under. Creative Commons licensing comes in a range of different "flavors" that allow those registering their work to specify exactly which ways they will allow their work to be used by others.

Most all Creative Commons works include an 'Attribution' release... that is, you allow others to "copy, distribute, display, and perform your copyrighted work - and derivative works based upon it - but only if they give you credit." Note that this includes commercial uses of your photograph! If you only attached an 'Attribution' requirement, then it is legal for your photos to be used by anyone for almost any purpose as long as you are given credit for the work.

To prevent commercial use of your work, you would need to have also chosen the 'Non-commercial' rule when registering your photo under Creative Commons. The 'Non-commercial' rule can be applied to any Creative Commons work, and when a work is classified as "Attribution, Non-commercial" then others can "copy, distribute, display, and perform your copyrighted work - and derivative works based upon it - but only if they give you credit AND if it is not used commercially."

Other options are available, as well. For instace, you can also add a "No Derivates" rule to your work which prevents others from modifying it from its original form.

Basically, you need to go back and see exactly what rules you chose when you posted your photos under Creative Commons. If you didn't choose the 'Non-Commercial' option, then I'm afraid it is totally legal for the app company to make use of your work... that is, as long as you are credited for the work somewhere in the application! If they didn't give you credit for that photograph, then they are absolutely in the wrong. The downside is that, without you expending some hefty lawyers fees, the best you'll probably get them to do is credit you as they should have.

Creative Commons sounds like a great idea to most people, and it is defnitely a nice advancement in sharing music, photos, and graphics arts... but it is crucial that you understand the exact terms of the Creative Commons rules before you go distributing your masterpieces to the masses.

You can find slightly more details here on flickr concerning the various aspects of Creative Commons licensing... good luck!

What is the best eReader for college textbooks?

Dexter Hor

I am looking to get an eReader for my college textbooks. Mainly because the hard copies are expensive and just a pain to carry around all the time. I am debating between the Kindle 3 and the Nook. Any suggestions or thoughts would be great?

Answer
Hi, Dexter Horst, Nook (or better Nook Color) would be the best for you.
Kindle 3 is lighter and has a better screen and battery than Kindle 2. It's not a touchscreen, it's still e-Ink black & white screen. You should understand the limitations of e-Ink eReaders - they are limited to be black & white for now they "blink" at each ebookâs page turn, they're not too good for web browsing, they need external light source for reading when dark, and they cannot handle videos.
There's also similar Nook eReader devices available from Barnes & Noble that have a lot of advantages over Kindles such as:
1. Nook allows to lend books for 2 weeks to friends or to your other devices that run B&N app (PC, MAC, Android phones, Apple iPhone and iPad, etc.) Barnes & Noble allows (when you walk in with the Nook to B&N store) to read any available eBook for free while in the store via free provided in the store Wi-Fi. With Nook, while in BN store you get exclusive articles from top authors, and great offers including cafe treats and unique deals.
2. Nook (unlike Kindle) can be used for library ebooks.
3. Nook (unlike Kindle) can be used for renting text-ebooks.
There's over a million of free public ebooks as well as over a million of ebooks that you need to pay for available through Barnes & Noble eBook store. Prices are generally much lower than for physical books.
If you're willing to spend a bit more, you could get Nook Color from Barnes & Noble which is a hybrid Android device, much more than just an e-Reader but not a full tablet as it doesn't have a camera (but iPad also doesnât have one.) Even though Nook Color has LCD touchscreen, it's a new generation screen which is anti-glare coated and is better performing in sunlight and produces less glare all of which are dooming reading on iPad. Also, the screen is amazing and readable/viewable at wide angles.
Nook Color has several apps that already come with the device (Pandora Internet radio, QuickOffice, etc.) Also, Barnes & Noble recently released Nook SDK and Nook Developer platform that will allow most of the existing 100,000 Android apps be ported to it. You can use the Social Settings screen to link your NOOKcolor to your Facebook account and your Twitter account. You can also import all your contacts from your Google Gmail account. Once you have linked to Facebook and Twitter and set up email contacts, you can lend and borrow books, recommend books, and share favorite quotes with your friends.
If all you want is to read novels, Kindle (or the original e-Ink Nook) might be better for you. If you want something more from your device (color graphs and charts of college text books, childrens books, photos and videos, web sites in full color) at half of the price of iPad or Galaxy tab, then Nook Color is your best bet.

How do you load pictures from an iPod Touch onto your computer?

xwoahxbaby

I just updated the Sony Cyber-shot viewer on my computer to Picture Motion Browser Ver 1.1 and a lot of my photos are missing. Thankfully most of them are on my iPod Touch.
Any tips?

Answer
I honostly don't think you can. Unless you go on the internet and attach the files, but I don't even know if thats possible. What you should try and do is try and get to the pictures from itunes like just play around and see what you come up with.
Another thing might be, that the pictures that are missing are somewhere else on your computer, don't use a program actually go to like documents, and then pictures or wherever you save them, and if there not there then they either got deleted or there somewhere else on your computer.
But if you have a jailbroken ipod touch or if u want to pay 20$ you can get the new iphone apps and go to mail and set up your account and then send the photos to urself and go on ur comp and go to that hotmail thing, and they should be on there.

How do you take a picture like tumblr girls?

which software I need to download for running java?

best iphone photo manipulation apps on when it comes to photo manipulation, but there are plenty of apps ...
best iphone photo manipulation apps image

I own you

which software I need to download to run java programs
1) I only need to run the program through command line input -
using javac filename.java -> java filename
2) I downlaod java (TM) 6 update 12 , it doesn't work

3)The java company is so stupid, why do not call the software "Java - XXXX"? xxxx should be the year of production. what is the BS "(TM) 6 update 12" mean?

Answer
The iPhone OS's user interface is based on the concept of direct manipulation, using multi-touch gestures. Interface control elements consist of sliders, switches, and buttons. The response to user input is supposed to be immediate to provide a fluid interface. Interaction with the OS includes gestures such as swiping, tapping, pinching, and reverse pinching. Additionally, using internal accelerometers, rotating the device on its y-axis alters the screen orientation in some applications.

A home screen with application icons, and a dock at the bottom of the screen, showing icons for the applications the user accesses the most, is presented when the device is turned on or whenever the home button is pressed. The screen has a status bar across the top to display data, such as time, battery level, and signal strength. The rest of the screen is devoted to the current application. There is no concept of starting or quitting applications, only opening an application from the home screen, and leaving the application to return to the home screen. It is possible to force an application to quit by holding down the home button, however. While some multitasking is permitted it is not obtrusive or obvious. Third-party apps are quit when left, but with a future software update, notifications will be able to be pushed from Apple's servers to the iPhone or iPod touch. Many of the included applications were designed to work together; allowing for the sharing or cross-propagation of data from one application to another (e.g., a phone number can be selected from an email and saved as a contact or dialed for a phone call.)

[edit] Application support
The central processing unit used in the iPhone and iPod Touch is an ARM-based processor instead of the x86 (and previous PowerPC or MC680x0) processors used in Apple's Macintosh computers, and it uses OpenGL ES 1.1[6] rendering by the PowerVR 3D graphics hardware accelerator co-processor[7]. Mac OS X applications cannot be copied to and run on an iPhone OS device. They need to be written and compiled specifically for the iPhone OS and the ARM architecture. However, the Safari web browser supports "web applications," as noted below. Authorized third-party native applications are available for devices with iPhone OS 2.0 through Apple's App Store.

[edit] Included applications
In version 2.2, the iPhone home screen contains these default applications: SMS (Text messaging), Calendar, Photos, Camera, YouTube, Stocks, Maps (Google Maps with Assisted GPS), Weather, Clock, Calculator, Notes, Settings, iTunes (with access to the iTunes Music Store and iTunes Podcast Directory), App Store and Contacts. Four other applications delineate the iPhone's main purposes: Phone, Mail, Safari, and iPod.[8]

The iPod Touch retains many of the same applications that are present by default on the iPhone, with the exception of the Phone, SMS, and Camera apps. The "iPod" App present on the iPhone is split into two apps on the iPod Touch: Music, Videos and Podcasts. The bottom row of applications is also used to delineate the iPod Touch's main purposes: Music, Videos, Photos, and iTunes.

[edit] Web applications
At the 2007 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference Apple announced that the iPhone and iPod Touch will support third-party "applications" via the Safari web browser, referred to as web applications. The applications can be created using web technologies such as AJAX.[9]

[edit] Unsupported third-party native applications
See also: List of iPhone OS Applications
Currently, the iPhone and iPod Touch can only officially install full programs through the App Store.[10] However, from version 1.0 unauthorized third-party native applications are available.[11] Such applications face the possibility of being broken by any iPhone OS update, though Apple has stated it will not design software updates specifically to break native applications (other than applications that perform SIM unlocking).[12] The main distribution methods for these applications are the Installer and Cydia utilities, which can be installed on the iPhone after major methods of jailbreaking.

[edit] iPhone SDK

iPhone SDK included in Xcode 3.1 final. On October 17, 2007, in an open letter posted to Apple's "Hot News" weblog, Steve Jobs announced that a software development kit (SDK) would be made available to third-party developers in February 2008.[13] The SDK was released on March 6th, 2008, and allows developers to make applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch, as well as test them in an "iPhone simulator". However, loading an application onto the devices is only possible after paying an iPhone Developer Program fee. Since the release of Xcode 3.1, Xcode is the development environment for the iPhone SDK.

Developers are free to set any price for their applications to be distributed through the App Store, of which they will receive a 70% share. Developers can also opt to release the application for free

Can your phone get a virus?

iphone photo apps cnet on Adobe's Photoshop.com app now on iPhone - Mobile Apps
iphone photo apps cnet image

Andrew R

Can my smartphone get a virus from the internet? What are the signs?

Answer
YES!!! It Can! if it does not have any security software on it protecting it.
Your Smart Phone is just like any other computer device. It can receive a virus from webpages you visit and any "iffy" e-mails your friends send you. Any 3rd party apps from unknown websites you may download. Or even that cute Kitty picture your Mom sends you in a text. (if you don't know where She got it, or her phone was already infested when she took the pic how can you tell it does not have a virus?

The ONLY way to tell if you have a virus is to have an anti-virus program running on your phone and the best and cheapest is a program called "Lookout". Cheapest because its FREE!!! they have a paid version that adds a few bells and whistles but the FREE version will protect your phone.

It will also help you locate your phone should it become lost or stolen. You install the program on your phone, and at that time sign up on their website. (<--For FREE) If your phone is lost you can log onto their website under your ID and password then select "FIND MY PHONE" and it will give you a Google map of yours phones location down to the accuracy of your phones GPS which many times is +/- 5 Feet.
You can also ring your phone from that site if you lost it around the house and don't have another phone to call it.
For the paid version you can also remotely ERASE everything on your phone. This would come in handy to prevent someone from accessing all your e-mails and private information. Or photos maybe you should not have. lol You can also brick the phone. that means whoever took it cannot use it at all. or make it squeal whenever its turned on..
I like this added (paid) feature knowing it would piss the thief off not being able to use the phone for anything.

As for telling if your phone has a virus. The ONLY way to know is to have an anti-virus tell you. Sure your phone may run slower than normal, or your friends may be getting e-mails or texts from your phone telling them to go to a website without you actually sending them. BUT MOST of the time you will notice NOTHING and the virus will quietly be collecting your credit card numbers and bank information and be sending it to the bad guys without your knowledge!

The modern Smart Phone contains more computer power that the desk tops of just 10-Years ago.
My advice: NEVER operate a computer of any kind without the proper protection software.

This also applies to the iPhone.
Apple does not advertise it because they want to give the impression that there "stuff" does not get viruses but they Make AND Sell anti virus software for their macs and phones. As more people bought macs it became popular enough for the bad guys to make money off spying on Macs. There are now many viruses written for the Macs, iPhone and iPad's. AND Apples sells the anti-Malware programs to protect their equipment. BUT believe it or not even some of the Apple iStore "GENIUSES" don't know about it. LOL!!! (and I use the term "Genius VERY loosely)

I only work with Android Phones so Here is the best place to pick up a GOOD download of the anti-virus program for Android.

Touch phone or qwerty keyboard?

Just Claud

I already have a full service plan, i just need a new phone.
preferably touch or with a qwerty keyboard that can go under the verizon network. under 400$?
i know it's a lot to ask but i really really need a new phone. i have a razr and it sucks
a voyager would be 200 bucks without a plan?
surprising...

Answer
Because you have Verizon wireless, you can only get the phones that are available directly from them because they use CDMA phone technology rather than GSM. GSM phones are phones that are able to use SIM cards --like the iPhone, Nokia N95, and Sony Ericsson C905. CDMA phones are not used by any other network except verizon, and the phones available to other networks are usually not available with Verizon, with the exception of some phones like the LG Vu, Blackberries, some Nokias, and some Sony Ericssons (all these phones are basically the CDMA versions of the GSM ones other networks like AT&T and Sprint use). Therefore, only get a phone that is offered by Verizon (does not use SIM cards). I will offer some phone reviews I did 3 months ago, but should still be quite useful:

Don't get the Samsung Flipshot-it's pretty old, considering I wanted it like 3 yrs ago back when my family still had Verizon.

Don't get the Samsung Glyde. The Flipshot is it's predecessor, but this phone has a relatively small screen compared to other touch screen phones, a sub-par camera, and e-mail that takes getting used to.

The LG Dare is a pretty nice phone overall-it has the complete package: a good 3.2 MP camera; a nice, large touch screen screen; feature-rich; a great virtual QUERTy keyboard for texting or T9 if you prefer that; an accelerometer for rotating the display 90 degrees counterclockwise for certain apps like photos, texting, and other software; terrific call quality; etc. It's better than an iPhone.

The Motorola Z6c has a small screen and is not good at all for video playback. It has a pretty good camera for being only 2 MP. It's a CDMA/GSM phone, which means it uses Verizon in the US and GSM when travelling to other countries. You need to get a SIM card for traveling, by the way. If your account is in good standing for 90 days, Verizon will unlock the phone for you so you can use it with whatever service provider you want (otherwise you use the SIM card from Verizon's GSM-enabled partners). Call quality is just "good" and crisp w/o static.

Don't get the Samsung Gleam; it is only a decent phone. It has sub-par video playback, good call quality, average photo and video taking, fashionable design, pretty good music quality b/c of twin speakers that's quite crisp.

The LG Venus has a strange touch screen interface which takes some getting used to. It's a touch screen slider phone with a nice feature set. Touch screen is a bit gimmicky w/o touch-sensitivity settings. The camera has no flash or self-portrait mirror. Overall, a very nice-looking phone w/features that complement it well.

The voyager is a great multimedia and texting phone with a few bad qualities: a bit bulky, great features, and a keyboard! This is like the AT&T Tilt, but a better alternative than the Samsung Glyde.

The LG Choco. 3 is simple and easy to use, gets smudged easily, has a built in FM transmitter for music, decent photo quality for 2 MP, great call quality, pretty decent music quality-good for short stints but not so great for long times.

The LG enV(2) looks nice, is compact, has a great qwerty keyboard (like the voyager), mediocre photo quality, average video playback, slighly average music quality that can get quite loud (use a bluetooth headset to listen if you want better quality), and a feature set nearly identical to the first enV (not upgraded, but still good).

The LG Decoy gets smudged easily, is too shiny for its own good, takes mediocre photos, has a built-in bluetooth headset that has great call quality (no noice-cancelling tech so not great in a crowd or w/noise), has lots of bluetooth features (check CNET), and isn't too compact of a phone. I imagine the video playback is mediocre at best, too.

Thanks!

I've had a iPhone 3G since September 2008 and I'm thinking about getting the iPhone 4 this summer...?

appleeee<3

If I back everything up to my computer before I get the new one, will I still have my text messages, apps, photos that I took with the phone?

Also, when's the iPhone 5 coming out? I would hate it if the 5 came out a month after I got the iPhone 4, ya know?

Thanks!

Answer
before you get the iPhone 4 u should be able to back up everything from your iPhone 3g on to a computer except your text message but you could save them on to your sim card also the iPhone 5 is set for June 6-11, 2011, and its for "the future of iOS and Mac OS" and its usually the exact yearly time frame when the iPhone could be announced. However theres been many reports saying it may not come out until later this year, so lets keep our fingers crossed.

I want to buy a Digital Camera (which I have the money for) but then my friend told me to get an Ipod Touch 4G instead, I don't have all the money for it but she said that she and our other friends would chip in and she might see if my parents can chip in as well... I'm not sure though because I enjoy taking photos but an Ipod Touch has more features and a bit more entertainment.
so which do you think I should get? please give reasons for your answers if you can

Answer
well if i had a choice i would go for the ipod touch there are 100's of camera apps, there are apps like imovie, splice and reeldirector that allow you to edit videos on the device and upload them to youtube from the device, image browsing is nicely done and there great memory to store the photos, there are also loads of camera apps that are really good like aging booth that make you look old instalapse to make timetapse videos adobe photoshop express and 1000s of photo editors with so much choice and thats just the photo side of what the device can do

on the other side a digital camera is more likely to be a bit better quality but most likely wont be as user friendly as the ipod touch (id go for the ipod)

So I have an iPod touch 4g and I need some apps to make funny pictures/collages for Instagram,Twitter,Facebook?

Any ideas? Please help!

Answer
1. Pic stitch: This is a popular picture collage app and I'm always seeing it in the top 25 most popular apps in the App Store.

2. Pic jointer: This app has many ways you collage your photos. You can collage up to 4 pictures with this, in a variety of ways.

3. Trans photo: I don't believe you can pic collage on this app, but I know you can edit your pics with different themes (Black and white, Negative, Sepia, etc).

And did I mention all of these apps are free?
