Android or Windows 8 tablet?

me, myself

Hi there, I'm currently looking for a tablet. I've never owned one before so I have no experience whatsoever with the gadget. I'm confused as to whether I should choose Android or Windows 8 as my tablet's OS.

One thing for sure, I won't be getting iOS because I have a Lenovo laptop and I want to be able to connect my tablet to my laptop.

I would only use my tablet primarily for reading pdf's and watching videos (such as youtube or flv/mp4 files) and also for wi-fi. I'm not going to use it for gaming or video/photo editing and other stuff like that.

So here are some features that I'm looking for in my tablet for consideration:
- Large screen size (reading & watching videos are more comfortable on large screens)
- Long or at least a decent battery life (I spend most of my time on the road so I won't have plenty of time to charge every now and then)
- A nice screen display (again, for reading & watching video purposes)

That's it. Like I said, I won't be using it to play games or other high-tech utility stuff; only the basic stuff such as reading, watching videos, and wi-fi.

Thank you in advance.
Could you also recommend me the name/brand of the tablets? There are so many Android/Windows 8 tablets out there. Each has its own specs and features. I don't know much about tablets so I'm clueless as to choose the right one for me.
Wow thank you Jdeats. That's some insightful info you've provided me right there. :) Anyway, yeah a lot of people told me to go with Android tablets instead since Windows 8 tends to have a lot of problems that ought to be fixed by Microsoft,

I was initially thinking something like the Samsung Galaxy Tab/Note 10.1, Google Nexus 10, or Asus Transformer Pad Infinity, but I have my doubts though because I heard/read that :
- Galaxy Tab/Note : screen quality is rather poor
- Nexus 10 : battery life is disappointing (plus the charger charges very slowly it's annoying)
- Asus Transformer : sooo.... pricey (plus I also heard that it still runs on the old Ice Cream Sandwich OS as opposed to the current Jellybean - don't know if it would make much of a difference though)

So I don't know....

I've heard before about Microsoft Surface Pro and Amazon Kindle Fire but I haven't really checked on them both. But I do know that cnet.com named Microsoft Surface the best Wind
Oh my previous post got cut...! Anyway, here's the rest of the post :

I've heard before about Microsoft Surface Pro and Amazon Kindle Fire but I haven't really checked on them both. But I do know that cnet.com named Microsoft Surface the best Windows 8 tablet around and Kindle Fire HD the best media consumption tablet.

I don't know, though. I still have my doubts. What do you think?

Answer
First a bit about Windows tablets: Windows tablets actually come in two varieties, Windows 8 tablets which are actually tablet/notebook PC hybrids (e.g. Microsoft Surface Pro) and then those running Windows RT (Microsoft Surface) which is a stripped down version of Windows 8 that looks like Windows 8, but can only run Windows RT apps purchased through the Microsoft app store. The price difference is significant. Windows RT tablets start around $500 ($600 with the keyboard/case attachment) and then Windows 8 tablets (Surface Pro) starting around $900. Windows RT is Microsoft's tablet OS and devices that run Windows RT are lighter weight and are priced comparable to other tablets. Tablet devices running Windows 8 are really notebooks that can transform into heavy tablets. The thing I love about the Microsoft Surface tablets are the flip-case and the integrated keyboard. No other tablet gets this right like Microsoft has done. Also, I like that Microsoft Office is included with every Windows tablet.

Android tablets will give you access to more apps and will cost about $100 less for comparable screen size. If you have an Android phone you'll be able to download apps you've already purchased through Google Play or Amazon App Store to your tablet at no cost. Samsung Galaxy Tab and Google Nexus 10 are two models I would recommend looking at, both will give you access to the Google Play Store with tens of thousands of movies, books, etcâ¦

Based on what you've said you're looking for "using it for the basic stuff: reading, watching videos, wi-fi (web browsing)" I would strongly recommend you look at the larger Kindle Fire HD 8.9". The Kindle Fire HD is an Android tablet, it's just running Amazon's custom version of Android. The most popular Android apps are available in the Amazon App store. On top of being a high quality product the Kindle Fire HD has the advantage of Amazon's huge library of movies, books and music. No other tablet can claim this library and Amazon has not released their video player for other Android tablets. You can rent movies on the Kindle Fire HD that you can not on a Windows tablet or any other Android tablet yet, Google Play and Microsoft's App Store just can't compete with Amazon's library.

So given all of this information I would suggest taking a trip to your local Best Buy and spending some time with the Microsoft Surface, The Galaxy Tab and the Kindle Fire HD.

Adobe Photoshop Touch Questions?

PaganDeva2

I just started getting into messing with photos on my Kindle Fire HD and my iPad mini, and I noticed the Adobe Photoshop Touch. It looks like it would take care of the majority of my needs, but, since I am not a computer geek and didn't see these answers on YouTube, I would like to know a few more things...

1. A customer reviewer in Amazon stated that he was only able to use the app when 'connected to Amazon'. It seemed to me that at times, you might need an internet connection if you need to access pictures from Google, but, I want to know if you need an internet connection each time you work with this app, even from your own gallery of pictures.

2. Does it have a color splash option? I LOVE that, being able to create a black and white image and then adding a splash of color to something significant. Thats an important feature for me.

3. It appears to be the same app available for BOTH, iPad mini as well as the Kindle Fire HD. Is there an advantage of using this on one versus the other? I was thinking about adding to both, because I keep my Kindle with me more often than I do the iPad, and this can give me something to do during lunchtime.

Thanks!

Answer
1. These apps depend on an internet connection to work with creative cloud content (images you have save on your creative cloud). I don't think you need to be online to edit an image stored on your device - although don't quote me on that.

2. It's not called "color splash" - it's called selective colorization or selective decolorization. I guess it could be done, since the Touch app has basic layers support, and an eraser - which is all you need. Bottom layer should be a color image, duplicate the layer, make top layer desaturated (black and white). Erase through the top image to view the color through the hole you erased.

3. According to Adobe the ipad and android tablet versions are basically the same app.

Remember these apps are nothing like real image editing software you can get for a computer - such as the real Adobe Photoshop. They are very basic, and limited - despite Adobe's claim that it contains the "core" functions of Adobe Photoshop.

So as long as you aren't expecting too much, they should be fine.

Ever since I upgraded my iphone, it downloads every single photo every time I download-that's over 500! Help!?

Gentle Spi

I had to upgrade my G3 iphone in order to use internet tethering. Ever since the upgrade, whenever I download photos, it downloads every single photo in the phone (500+) to my computer over and over each and everytime. I've found that I no longer am able to utilize the camera feature in my
phone because I don't want to have to take the time to sort through and delete over 500 photos just to
get the 8 new photos I've taken. Before the upgrade, it worked fine and only downloaded the newly taken photos that had not been previously downloaded. I've been on apple's iphone website several times and have found no way to contact them, plus have gone physically to an apple store and after waiting almost an hour for help, they just loaded a "settings" app on my phone and said it would answer my questions, it doesn't. They just wanted to get me out of the store since I wasn't buying anything and needed help.

Does anyone know how I can change it back to the way it was before without losing the tethering capabilities?

Answer
Connect your iPhone to your Mac and use the Image Capture to import photos from your iPhone.
In Image Capture, your iPhone will get detected as an photo device, and you can import selected photos or select all photos to import to your Mac.
If you are using Windows PC, then use the Windows Live Gallery software to download your photos to your PC system.
I generally take photos using Camera Plus Pro app and it has in-built feature to transfer photos to my laptop using Wifi or FTP transfer. So much faster.

what is this photo editing app?

shannon

Its really simple but soooo cute. I think its only exclusive to iphone users and having an android sucks if thats the case. The style of edit is quite popular right now. The pictures I see have wide, white borders with the actual picture having just a sort of white fade to them. I have a ton of photo editors but none of them do it quite like this. If anyone has any clues as to what it is itd be much appreciated.

Answer
This one has alot of diff borders http://www.softdd.com/mobile/photo-borders/index.html Not sure what type you are referrring to though

Iphone 5 vs Galaxy S4 for a teen?

Alice

I'm 17, and due for a new phone. Most of my friends at school have the iPhone 5 and they look amazing, but I read stuff saying that the S4 is so much better. But the iPhone 5 has facetime, and it can act as my ipod, so I'm split. The main things I want from a phone are:
1. Something that will last at least 2 years. My HTC I've had this time started dying after a year and a half.
2. Good battery life
3. Good cameras, front and back.
4. Good, free apps
5. A phone that I can easily connect my itunes, as my ipod's also died now.
5. Good memory, so can download loads of apps, and store a lot of photos and music.
6. A contract no more than £30 per month. Cheaper is preferable.
7. A fast phone that doesn't take ages to load all the time.
Based on these points, which phone is best for me?
Thanks for your help :)
Is it possible to put my music from my itunes onto a galaxy s4 easily?

Answer
Just because they are sold in the same shops they are not in the same league.

1) Everyone recommends the IP5 and NEVER mentions the price. iPhone prices / tariffs on any all networks defy logic and gravity

2) Slick advertising does NOT mention this http://finance.yahoo.com/news/8-things-the-iphone-5-still-can-t-do.html?_view=desktop&desktop_view_default=true

THREE as "3" was just too short***
The Samsung Galaxy S II (2)was released in MAY 2011 & has 1.2Ghz Dual Core processor with an 8Mp camera.

18 months later November 2012 Apple puts a 12Ghz Dual Core processor & 8Mp camera in a phone and call it the IP5

4) iPhones play catch up what is on an iPhone came out months before on other makes. Eg the iPhone4 was the FIRST iPhone to have a camera flash yeah 2010 .

A total of 9 things are missing as ALL IPHONES do NOT have BLUETOOTH MEDIA TRANSFER! so NO sharing SGS II 9 MORE, SGS III 9 MORE S IV 9 MORE,

The IP5S released anytime within the next 3 to 4 months it being an S will be a tweak so still Dual Core IMO the other IP5S will NOT surpass the BB Z10 (Which is the best Dual Core phone in this the Samsung Galaxy)
Windows 8 phones have 1.5GHz processor as 'standard'

Dismiss the above as there is an alternative "A" nswer. The Geekbench 2 scores make the S IV the fastest phone on this planet http://www.primatelabs.com/blog/2013/03/samsung-galaxy-s-4-benchmarks/

*** The SGS II is the Dual Core version of the Quad Core SGS III both SGS II & SGS III have won 6 PHONE OF THE YEAR AWARDS.

If you want the BEST DUAL CORE PHONE MADE BY SAMSUNG TO DATE UNTIL THE S4 MINI comes along get the SGS II, or put another way, The 5th Samsung phone is superior to the best Apple.
In order S IV; SGS III & NOTE 2 [ Quad Core] S 4Mini [July 2013] SGS II

APPLE is years behind everybody not just Samsung, Eg the gorgeous BB Z10 specs made it the Dual Core phone on the planet, surpassing Windows 8.
The S4 Mini will take back that throne however the Z10 appearance outshines all iPhones

iPhone 4 storage problems?

Kaitlyn

Okay so I've had my iphone since Dec 31, 2011. No problems.

(Btw: I have the 8 GB)

A few months ago, i want to say over the summer, I did the software update to iOS5 i believe (i think so, because the software update i havent done yet is iOS 6).

Now a few weeks ago my phone said I have NO bytes available on my phone so i deleted a few apps and a bunch of my pictures and it still said that. Today I sent all my pictures to my email and deleted them all off my phone and I only have two apps on it - facebook and instagram.

I even took my email off my phone and deleted a bunch of my message threads and notes and it STILL says I have 0 Bytes available?

It says 6.4 GB used but the only things shown as taking up storage are:
Facebook - 37.8 MB
Instagram - 23.7 MB

No music, no video, not anything.

Also every time I go to my camera it won't let me take any pictures and comes up with that annoying message that says

"Cannot Take Photo
There is not enough available storage to take a photo. You can manage your storage in Settings"

This phone is really pissing me off and I just don't know what to do anymore!

Anyone have any idea whats going on or what I could do? PLEASE share!
I did what Diana B said - now it says I have 16.8 MB available. I can take photos but I can't download any apps yet :(

Answer
If you look at the memory bar, it should tell you what category of storage is taking up that room. If it's "other" it may be that your safari app is taking up that room. You need to clear its cookies, cache, whatever. Just check out Safari in the settings menu.

If it's music and/or video, it may be that manual management of music and video isn't selected, and iTunes is reserving that space for all the music and video on your computer to go into your iPod.

Specifically I would love to just create my own apps but since I do not have the know how I need an app I can add photos of animal species, info on them where to find and identify. Ideally it would allow a table of contents so I can for example have all waterfowl seperate from felines. Anyone that can point me in the direction of such an app will have my gratitude in overload.

What are some other photo editing programs like Picnik?

rachel.

I love Picnik but I've been using it for ages. Is there some other free photo editing programs I could use?
Thanks!

Answer
Here are some links that mention free online editing sites :
http://www.geeksugar.com/10-Free-Online-Photo-Editing-Websites-1664707
http://www.1stwebdesigner.com/freebies/28-online-photo-editing-websites-to-have-fun-with/

Check out these links for free photo editing softwares :
http://savedelete.com/20-best-photo-editing-software-for-free-download.html
http://webtablab.com/apple/best-free-photo-editing-software/

Honestly, I have tried Picnik, and it seems pretty good. I used Fotoflexer once, and it seems decent. I download GIMP , but sadly didn't work on my computer. Apparently it's like Photoshop for free.

*Bonus* : Photo editing apps ;

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2010/03/photo-editing-photography-comic-touch-hipstamatic-camerabag-polarize-colorsplash-iphone.html

http://www.mentorlog.com/2011/apple/best-free-iphone-apps-for-photo-editing.html

I have tried a few, Adobe Photoshop Express ,as well as Colorize seem pretty good. Adobe Photoshop Express is free, and edits stuff such as Saturation, Exposure, Contrast, and has helpful stuff. Colorize basically helps by changing the colors on photos. It can be pretty good, if you use it right, but sometimes it does look fake.

Question for people with iPhones?

Emily

I really like photography and editing and directing videos and stuff. Does any one know any good (free) apps for this stuff? Also, if possible does anyone know what apps will let you put multiple of your photos and essentially make them into a comic? Thank you!!!

Answer
People who are truly interested in photography do not use cell phones to take pictures or videos. They use a proper camera.

Get a proper camera, even a cheap point and shoot (a fraction of the cost of an iphone) will be much much better than any phone. Most point and shoots will even take pretty decent video these days, although a proper camcorder would be better for videos.

Should i get the iphone 4 when it comes out for verizon?

inspired

If you have an iphone 4 would you recommend it? Pros? Cons?

I have an ipod touch and LOVE it. I don't know if it is different then that.

Right now I have the enV touch..

I was thinking about waiting until july 2011 (instead of January 2011 for the 4th gen) to get the 5th generation of iphone but i don't know if that would be good because sometimes when it first comes out there is a lot of problems.
I meant they already have had 4th generation out for AT&T which is coming out in january. Then in July theyre coming out with the 5th generation. I was leaning more toward the 4th generation seeing it was out for longer to sort out problems.. but i don't know.
There was a thing in the newspaper saying there was going to be a verizon iphone in 2011 and it says that apple's contract is up with at&t so they are going to give it verizon too.
http://www.beatweek.com/news/7141-verizon-iphone-arrives-four-years-late-still-makes-splash/

http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/10/10/verizon-wireless-iphone-4-5-outside-and-inside-differences/

Answer
I've never heard of Verizon, but I do have an iPhone 4 on O2...

Pros;
- It's one of the best phones I've ever owned.
- The apps are great - Facebook, Train Times, Bus Times, Games, YouTube...
- The video camera is really good for a phone - you can record in HD.
- Handy to have - although it's smaller than one, it's like a mini computer.
- HDR photography - No under or over exposed photos.
- On the Maps app, you can ask it to show you were you are.
- GPS tags on the photos - you can see the location where you took the photos.
- Email on the go.
- Fast internet browser.
- Stunning graphics - it's probably impossible to find a pixel anywhere on the display.

Cons;
- The signal does drop by about 2 or 3 bars depending on where you are. Although it does this, I've never experienced a drop call.
- It's expensive.
- Some apps make the phone look not as good because the developers haven't updated them for the iPhone 4 meaning they looked pixelated due to the iPhone's great display.

It is just like the iPod touch, although it's slightly bigger in width and has a phone/text messaging service.

Apparently the new 5th generation iPhone is to come out earlier because of the signal issue - if it did, apparently it'd be in January so it may be best to wait until then.

I did have an iPhone 3G, and got an Android phone. I disliked the Android and went straight back to the iPhone 3G. I then sold them both and got an iPhone 4. I haven't regretted it. It's a great phone, and addictive. Many people I know have found it hard to get rid of an iPhone simply, because it does so much!

I'd give the iPhone 4 an 8/10 because although it does drop a few bars, it is a great phone.

EDIT: I read the first persons' comment. You do not need a 'rubber' case for the phone. It does help with the signal, but you can still easily call people without any kind of case. I've had my iPhone for around 2 months nearly. I haven't got a case on it. Although it does drop around 2/3 bars when I hold it, it does not drop calls and it works well.

iPhone 4S problems, camera shutter, notifications?

Eleanor

I got the iPhone 4S today and am experiencing so many problems. First, the back-facing camera will not open and is stuck on the shutter photo. I've reset, restored, and everything people online say to do. Is this a hardware problem? Also, in all my apps, not a single notification is coming through. As soon as I open an app, I get notifications in the app, but absolutely none on the lock screen, as badges, or in the notification center. Please help me! Thanks for all of your help in advance and please answer quickly!

Smart alert
Tilt to zoom
Pan to move
Turn over to mute

Instagram has such a great collection of photos which come up everyday. There are a good number of professional photographers too. who use Instagram accounts.

Here is a list of photo enhancing & editing apps for iPhone, I use quite a lot.
1. Camera Plus Pro: It has the best photo filters and capture options.
Check out here: http://www.globaldelight.com/iphone/camerapluspro/

2. Mextures: Lovely app for adding two or more fxs.

3. Layrs: New photo editing app but love the concept. You can change the background or foreground of a photo and apply effects in minutes.

4. PicCollage: Nice app for collage making.

Do try them out.

So I'm looking for apps for iPhone. I wanna do edits on instagram. Like cool ones. Not just filters. If you go to some instagram pages, they had photos of eyes and like, the eyelashes turn into trees. Stuff like that. Abstract things. I use photoshop and filterstorm and overlay. But I'm looking for apps. Preferably free but if not that's okay. Any ideas?

Answer
Check old OldBooth, Photogene, Best Camera App, Comicfy, TiltShift, Night Camera and many more iPhone Applications - there are tons to try out.

What are some good iPhone photo editing apps for free?

Lindy

I need some good photo editing apps for an iPhone. I have "fotolr" & "Picart" but i need new ones. Free ones though. :)

Answer
There are tons of great photo apps for the iPhone and iPad.

Photo Editor - Snapseed is a comprehensive photo app that you'll wind up using every day. Photoshop mobile is another editor to consider. And Befunky is great too with the addition of more fun editing features.

Swap Photo Parts - With Juxtaposer you can take one part from one photograph and add that part into a second photo.

Panoramic Photos - Pano features the ability to take 360-degree panoramas using up to sixteen photos with a semi-transparent guide helps you line up each shot perfectly. With Pano's alignment tools, blending, and colour-correction algorithms provide you can really get seamless images in just seconds - I have been amazed.

Text on Photos - Photophrase blends beautiful typography with pictures to create unique images you can share. You can use Photophrase for photo captioning, photo sharing, and just plain photo fun.

Funny Faces - Faceship offers tons of face-changing effects! Besides the TinyFace, effects include a bubbleface, square head, nerd glasses (with enlarged eyeballs!), catface, the best moustache ever, some crazy mirror effects, horrible zits, sad face and happy faces, fat neck, and a bunch more. Another option is PhotoGoo which lets you turn your photos to Goo! Create funny facial expressions from your friends faces.

Un-crop - If you've ever taken a hasty photo on your phone and didn't leave enough room on the outside, AntiCrop is the app can uncrop those photos by filling in the edges with just a few swipes.

Iphone; will the Message, Camera, Notes, Photos, Phone, Mail apps get deleted?

pamdelange

First time i got my iphone, i put apps using my friends mac & now i wanna put some of what i downloaded using my own laptop. but when i clicked sync apps it says all my other apps will get deleted. (since some of the apps in my phone arnt in my itunes applications) im fine with all the other apps getting deleted. but i worry that maybe the Messages, Camera, Notes, Photos, Phone Mail & the apps the come with the iphone get deleted too.

will it?

Answer
no they will not because they are part of the operating system. the rest of your apps will come off because they are from your friends library on there computer. if you want to download apps on your computer you can re download all the apps from your friends laptop on your laptop and add more. but the messages, camera, notes, photos, phone mail apps will not get deleted. i have an ipod touch and the only way to get those things cleared is to restore the iphone and that only clears what is inside the apps, not the actual apps.

Should i get the iphone 5 or 4?

Baylor

I'm good for an upgrade with verizon. should i spend the 200 dollars for the iphone 5 or get the free upgrade for the iphone 4? is there a big difference? all i see thats different is that the iphone 5 is longer.. does it perform better? is it worth the extra money?

Answer
iPHone 5 difference from 4(not 4s) highlights:
Taller(+.37 inches or +8.6mm)
Thinner(-.07inches or -1.3mm)
Lighter(-.85onces or -25grams)

Taller screen specs:
Display(+.5inch diagonally)
Resolution(1136x960 vs 960x640, an extra 176pixels)
16:9 vs 3:2 aspect ratio

Cellular and Wireless:
+ DC-HSDPA
+ CDMA model: CDMA EV-DO Rev. B (Additionally)
+ LTE
+ Wi-Fi 802.11n on 5GHz(Additionally faster)
-/+ Nano-SIM (Replaces 4 and 4s' Micro-SIM)

+Siri (Use your voice to send messages, set reminders, and more. Ex. hold the button, say "Launch Neflix" and it will run the Netflix app if you have it installed without having to scroll through your list of apps)

iSight Camera(Camera opossite of screen)
+ 8megapixel(3264x2448) vs 5mp(2592x1936)
+ Five-element lens vs Four-element lens
+ Face Detection
+ Hybrid IR filter
+ Æ/2.4 aperture vs Æ/2.8 aperture (catches 76% more light)
+ Panorama

FaceTime Camera
1.2mp(1280x960) photos vs VGA-resolution photos(640x480)
720p(1280x720?) HD videos vs VGA-resolution videos(640x480)
Backside illumination sensor

Video Recording
+ 1080p(1920x1080?) vs 720p(1280x720?)
+ video stabilization(improved version of 4s)
+ Take still photos while recording video
+ Face detection

+ EarPods claimed by apple to be better in sound

-/+ Lightning connector vs 30-pin

It all depends on the needs and budget; I would go with the 4s minimum because its almost similar(has all the core features of the 5) to the 5 except for the 720p extra facetime-camera(Lot of test shows no huge leap improvement from 4s except for the 720p on the facetime camera of course) and better gaming specs. For gaming I would go with 5 over 4 since if the 4s is 73% faster than the 4, it would make 5 more than twice as fast and without a huge hit on battery life(seems same as the 4s but with a processor speed bump of almost 50%, more ram, etc...).

How can I transfer pictures from my MacBook Pro to my iPhone 4?

lilly10120

Answer
it will automatically do it when you plug it in, weather you have aperture or iphoto. when i plug my iphone 4 in it will open aperture for example. if it doesnt do it automatically, go ahead and do it manually from device, iphone section in itunes. its like a file layout and on the top it will say photo, apps, music. etc. click photos and sync to iphoto or aperture.

How much can an iPhone 4s 32gb hold?

iLove2Sinq

Tomorrow I am getting the iPhone 4s. I have an ipod touch 8gb that is completely filled up. I have Somewhere around 120 photos (if that) and like One thousand songs, and like 7 apps. I'm not a huge fan of apps, so I will only be having about 10-20, I am looking forward to putting more music on so I think I'll have about 2,000 to 5,000, and around 200 or so photos. I Often upload them and delete them, and i don't really take videos unless something awesome is happening. Will the 32gb cover all that I want? Thanks :)

Answer
Well I have an iPhone 4 8Gb and I have 653 songs, 812 photos, 36 videos and 132 apps and it's 3/4 full.

See photos can be any size so as long as they are not really big you will be fine. I could fill an 8gb phone with 12 photos and have no memory left if I make the photos large enough

Photo editing apps by Apple?

I have a iPhone 5 and I want a photo editing app that works really well and is easy to use and that's free if you have any good ones that you know of please any thanks ðð

Answer
Hello friend, there are several good photo editing apps by Apple. some of them are listed below.

1. Adobe Photoshop Express â Free
Photoshop Express Adobe Photoshop is a world renowned photo editing application for desktop computers and Mac, however for a number of years, the company have also had a mobile version to their software available to download for free on iPhone and iPad.The Photoshop Express app from Adobe is a reliable photo editing solution for quick fixes and playing around. It allows you to reduce red eye on photographs, reduce noise, distort images and its most recent version also has a number of filters to choose from. This app has great reviews on the App Store.

2. Instagram â Free.
Instagram Instagram is owned by Facebook and in recent times it has grown to over 90 million users. The Instagram app available to download for all iOS devices is not so much a photo editing app but more of a photo filter app and social network combined, as is the Instagram service.

3. Snapseed â Free
Snapseed Snapseed is perhaps the best photo editing app on this list. It is a very clever app that will automatically adjust your photo to create the very best final image. It features pinch to zoom effects and framing, and also allows you to create light leaks, as well as change saturation and brightness.

4. Aviary â Free
Aviary Aviary is one of those apps that when downloaded you wonder how you ever got by without it. Aviary is a wonderful photo filter and editing app that merges the best of Photoshop Express and Snapseed.

5. BeFunky â Free
BeFunky Last on our list of the best photo editing apps is BeFunky, a neat application for iOS devices that has rave reviews on iTunes. Its appeal comes from its combination of Instagram and Flickr features, allowing users to easily share their photographs and apply filters.

Photo apps for the iPhone? Vintage effect, filters, texture etc?

gamegirl

I am hoping to find an app that can do something similar to this:
http://www.florabellacollection.com/index2.php#/fgallery/2/

Answer
If you get the Photoshop Express app you can tweak your image to a desired effect. Obviously, no IPhone app will allow you full editing capabilities (Such as layering, masking etc) but in this app you can achieve this look.

You'll need to make sure your initial exposed shot (as with any photograph) is good in the first place though (too dark, lightening will leave ti grainy, too light will result in loss of detail).

The Photoshop App is free also, I love it, for my IPhone pics it does the job.

how to snyc my iphone 3GS with 2 computers?

nina c

I have two computers, a mac book pro and an imac. my music is spaced out between the two. if i want to sync both the music onto my iphone how can i do that.

Answer
Here is an easy way I've used. That is to use this iPhone to Mac Transfer program http://www.gutensoft.com/Utilities/3herosoft-copy-songs-from-iphone-to-mac.html

It is an easy-to-use iPhone to Computer transfer software that can fast copy songs between iphone and mac and manage your music, videos, photos, podcasts and TV Shows between iPhone and Mac.
And you can use it to transfer all music and other files from your iPhone onto the iTunes in a direct way. This won't overwrite any original files on your iPhone. And all song names are preserved.

Give it a try. It will save you lots of time on this.
You can also search more other ways at http://ask.com

The iPhone 4s data space?

Patrick

Okay just got an iPhone 4s and it's 16 gb. Nervous about the space. Do the things I delete like photos or apps still take up space afterward when already deleted?? Thnx

Answer
Technically no. It does not take up space after deleting photos or apps. But, if you forget to delete those from iTunes too, during next sync those will come back to your iPhone. So just remember to delete from iTunes as well.

Though if you install lots of games (each taking 1 GB on average) what you can do is keep all the apps (which you can use in future but not right away) in iTunes but uncheck few of those for syncing. In that way, you don't have to keep all the purchased/installed app/music in iPhone all the time but you don't have to download again. For photo, just keep regular backup.

32GB or 64GB iPhone 4S?

Sammy

I've been waiting FOREVER for the new iPhone to come out haha and although I wish they did more changes to it and called it iPhone 5, I still really like it and am very excited about iOS 5.

Now here's my question. I'm not sure whether to get the 32gb or 64gb. I have had two 8gb iPod Touches and I ALWAYS max out the space and have to delete apps and music to fit my most favorite apps and music on it. Considering the 32gb is 4x the amount I currently use, it should be enough... right? I'm not sure... I download a lot of apps, would probably gain a lot more music over the next two years and put a LOT of photos and videos and such on it. Would 32gb still hold all of it? Does anyone have a 32gb iPhone that puts a ton of stuff on it and still has room?

Is it worth the $100 to get 64gb? Please help! I'm going to preorder the iPhone 4S on the 7th so I need to know asap which one I should get. Thanks! (:

Answer
Definitely 32 gb, I own a 32 gb iphone but didn't download any music yet but I'm taking photos and downloading apps daily and I can tell that it can holds ALOT of stuff.
But get what you feel is right :)

I want to put music on my iPhone but iTunes won't let me. What do I do?

jake

When I connect my iPhone to my laptop it syncs to iTunes but when I wanna add music it says "iPhone unrecognized disconnect and try again later" this never happened before so I'm really confuse help!

Answer
Well, at the moment it seams like you may have to restore your iPhone. If you have photos on your iPhone, you should be able to access them by plugging in your iPhone, then click My Computer, iPhone, Internal Storage, DCIM, and they should be there. Then, copy the pictures you want to save onto your computer. Next, open your iPhone and restore to factory settings. All apps that you have bought will still be available to download at no extra cost. Now, paste the photos that you copied back onto your iPhone. Give it another try syncing it again. If the problem persists, contact Apple or if you are in the U.K, make an appointment at the Guinness Bar (http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/geniusbar/).

Hope this helps!

Transfer Nokia .NBU to Android-based HTC?

Nooooooooo

I have a Nokia N85 running... Whatever propriatory OS Nokia uses. I can backup the phone to .NBU files on my PC using Nokia's backup tool, and I can "explore" these NBUs with a 3rd party app. The problem is that I have a new HTC Desire running Android and I want to transfer my SMS messages (About 3,500), Pictures, Videos, and Contacts from my Nokia phone (or .NBUs) to my new HTC. I can connect my HTC to the PC also and have the HTC synching app for it but I think it only works with Android's own backup files. What I need is a way to either transfer the data from the phone or a Nokia NBU to whatever-Android-uses file format converter.

Any ideas?

Answer
Android is an opne system, so it doesn't use any kind of proprietary backup files. There may be apps that create theor own specific backup, but the system itself does not.

My suggestion would be this:

Extract the photos and videos from the Nokia backup files on your PC and just save them in their native format. These can be copied directly to the SD card on the phone. Please note that Android only supports certain video formats.

With contacts, the best thing to do with Android is use a Google mail account. Because Google apps are integrated into Android, you can use mail, contacts and the calendar on line, and they will immediately sync up with the same apps on the phone.

You can probably export the Nokia contacts to some kind of standard file format, such as CSV, and then import them into your Google Contacts, then edit them as you see fit right on line. All the changes and edits will sync to your phone, since they all like in Google's cloud.

As for texts, I'm not sure about that. perhaps there's a way to export them to some kind of plain text format and import them back to the phone. I've never done that (I rarely save text messages).

Is nokia lumia 710 a good choice?

Rocky

I want to perform my business work, like editing docs, attending presentations, chating on Lync, also might shift to 3g in future. I am an online addicted person.

Answer
yes it is
get the lumia 710
it feels premium and high end in your hand
the screen is a 3.7" amoled screen with Nokia clear black display so that means colors and text look amazing on it and that also means you can easily see in direct sunlight so you won't have to higher the screen brightness
the camera is a 5 megapixle camera which takes amazing photos and videos and it also has the Nokia added features like group shot, panorama shot and burst shot
what group shot allows you to do is to capture the perfect moment so for example if you are taking a photo of 2 people and you blink you will be able to rewind the time till when they were still smiling
the web browser is extremely good and very fast
the phone handles mail in a very good way
you've got a huge number of high quality apps and you also got the Nokia added free exclusive apps like Nokia drive,Nokia maps,Nokia city,Nokia lens,Nokia beta,Nokia music,Nokia creative studio, espn, espn radio,CNN,viber HD. and many more
battery life on the phone is very good and would easily get you through a full day of heavy use on a full charge
the whole os on the phone is amazing and it runs smooth and fast and it's also faster in everyday use than iOS and android
the phone also has deep social network integration (Facebook, twitter,LinkedIn)
hope I helped :)

Will the iPhone iOS 5 update delete all my texts?

Anonymous

I have really important texts on my iPhone 4 that would be heart breaking to loose. This is the only thing keeping me from getting the update. Please share from personal expiriences or your own knowledge. Thanks!

Answer
From my experience, the update is great!

I got all my photos, contacts, MESSAGES, call history, apps etc - everything back.
Just remember to BACK UP all the things on your iPhone on iTunes BEFORE you update.
After your update, you can just re-sync your back-up memory back into your phone.

Which one should I get- iPhone 5c or 5s?

BSE

I'm getting an iPhone for christmas but my family doesn't have that much money but first I wanted the 5c and now I want the 5s. I know a lot of people say 5s is better but if you know the difference can you explain which one is better? My dad is getting 2 iphones one for me and one for my sister so it's going to cost some money. Please Help CAN'T DECIDE!!!

Answer
Hello.

Here are 7 key differences between the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C.

1. Processor

The iPhone 5S has a faster processor than the 5C. The 5S sports an Apple A7 processor, while the heart of the 5C is a 1Ghz Apple A6. The A7 is a newer, more powerful model than the A6, particularly because it's a 64-bit chip (the first in a smartphone, according to Apple). Because it's 64-bit, the A7 can process twice as much data at the same time as the 32-bit A6. Processor speed isn't as big a factor in smartphones as it is in computers (there are many other things that affect overall performance as much, if not more), and the A6 is very fast (it's the same processor as in the iPhone 5), but the A7 in the iPhone 5S will make that model a bit speedier than the 5C.

Winner: iPhone 5S

2. Motion Co-Processor

The iPhone 5S is the first iPhone to include a motion co-processor. This is a chip that interacts with the iPhone's physical sensors--the accelerometer, compass, and gyroscope--to provide new feedback and options to apps. This could include much more detailed fitness and exercise apps, and the ability to know whether the user is sitting or standing. It's such a new feature that there won't be a lot of apps that use it right away, but it could be a major asset. You'll only find it on the 5S for now.

Winner: 5S

3. Fingerprint scanner

One of the iPhone 5S's headline features is the Touch ID fingerprint scanner it has built into its Home button. This scanner lets you tie security of your iPhone to your unique, personal fingerprint, which means that unless it's you (or someone has your finger!), your phone is very secure. Use the fingerprint scanner to unlock your phone and enter passwords. For now, the scanner is only available on the 5S, not the 5C.

Winner: 5S

4. Camera

When taken just on the specs, the cameras in the iPhone 5S and 5C don't look very different: they both max out at 8 megapixel still images and 1080p HD video. But what's under the hood makes the 5S's camera really stand out. The camera on the 5S offers dual-flash for truer-to-life colors, the ability to record slow-motion video at 120 frames/second in 720p HD, and a burst mode that captures up to 10 photos per second. The 5C's camera, while very good, offers none of these advanced features.

Winner: 5S

5. Colors

If you want a colorful iPhone, the 5C is for you. That's because it comes in many colors: yellow, green, blue, pink, and white. The iPhone 5S has more colors than previous models--in addition to the standard slate and gray, it now also has a gold option--but the 5C has the brightest colors and the biggest selection.

Winner: Mutual

6. Storage Capacity

The iPhone 5S has the same maximum amount of storage as last year's iPhone 5: 64GB. This is enough to store tens of thousands of songs, dozens of apps, hundreds of photos, and more. And if your storage needs are really big, this is the choice for you. The 5C matches the 16GB and 32GB models of the 5S, but it stops there--there's no 64GB 5C for capacity-hungry users.

Winner: 5S

7. Price

The iPhone 5C is Apple's "low-cost" iPhone. Like the 5S, it requires a two-year contract with a phone company, but when you get that, the 5C costs just $99 for the 16GB model (and $199 for the 32GB model). By contrast, the iPhone 5S costs $199 for a 16GB model, $299 for a 32GB model, and $399 for a 64GB model when purchased with a two-year contract.

Winner: 5C, but it is made cheap, so it is low cost. It's made of plastic.

I would definitely go for the 5S. Get a 32GB version, which holds a decent amount.

Happy Holidays!

Matthew

I have an iphone 4 and I've had an issue with it being compatible with my itunes for awhile. I ended up restoring it since it would never sync with itunes, every time I tried I received an error message saying "itunes cannot read iphone." Turns out, that was a horrible decision. Now I have an iphone with no contacts, no pictures, no apps, nothing. I believe I have the back-up material from the moment before I wiped the iphone clean but when I try to restore it I get another error message: "itunes cannot restore the iphone because an error has occurred." I was not expecting my iphone to be wiped clean and I desperately need my old material back. Is there anyway to figure out why I can't get my old material back?

Answer
If iTunes can't read iphone. The only way is to use the 3rd iPhone recovery software. Some tools can export your photos, videos, messages, contacts, notes and more to your computer. Such as http://datarecoveryforiphone.com/ios-data-recovery.html

If it works, can you give me the best answer?

iPhone 4s and downloading apps?

fang1rlll

does downloading apps use data on an iPhone 4s?

can you download apps etc by plugging it into a computer (like an ipod) or not? do i just have to download apps etc when i'm using wi-fi, and not using the data, like at home for example?

also does using instagram use data, or just downloading it? what about sending photos to fb/twitter etc?

Answer
If you are not connected to wifi then yes. It will use your data. So it's important to be connected to wifi when downloading/updating apps. Anytime you are not connected to wifi and you use an app, you are subject to the possibility it will use data. Often when you are not actively using an app it will use data. If you don't want apps to use your data you can remove them from your notifications center and this will keep them from searching for new information when they are not opened. Also, yes you can download apps through the computer and sync them to your phone when it is connected.
Best of luck,
