What app on galaxy s3 let's you do multiple pictures like so?

Bella

http://i50.tinypic.com/4l204h.jpg

Answer
I know there is a new catch phrase around: "There's an app for that", but guess what...... not EVERYTHING is done via apps.

Sometimes, we still need to learn how to do something and need to make an effort to get to the result.
Other times, there really IS an app for it, but doing it yourself the "hard" way gives far superior results.

Learn how to use a proper image "editing" program.
Adobe Photoshop, PS Elements, PaintShopPro, Gimp or even Photoscape (the last two are free).

Using a website is fine if you only want to do a few photos, but resident programs are the much better option if you have more or want to do this regularly. If it MUST be a free website, try http://pixlr.com/ or http://www.sumopaint.com/ or http://aviary.com/ .

Should I upgrade my iPhone 4S to Galaxy S3?

Justin K

This is a poll.

I really really want the Galaxy S3, I don't know how to put this... but... it's just perfect... a water animated lock screen, a home button, very thin, finally a high resolution big screen with SAMOLED, a quad-core processor that consumes less power. And finally... the design, it finally doesn't look cheap anymore, very sleek. I don't know why majority of people complain that it's uglier than the SII, I always think the SII is the ugliest smartphone ever that packed with tech. It looks like a square with round edge.... like a toy...

However, I must give up 2 things: I spend over $200 on App Store for iPhone only, and There's TONS of apps on my iPhone that Google Play doesn't have, not just one, but hundreds of them, including TomTom offline GPS, many photo editing software, etc...
And... I have a Macbook and iPad, so now... with Galaxy S3, it won't automatically sync with my Mac and iPad anymore, like Calendar, Reminders, Note, Pages, etc...

And I don't know how would I sync an Android phone with my Mac? Is it possible? Can I backup the phone to my Mac? Can it be use with iTunes? because I will only use iTunes for music, I don't want any other software install on my Mac, except maybe if it from Samsung... How is music work on Android?

I really like ICS interface... and I saw lots of kids using iPhone... I'm a college student... not to be rude... but it's true...

And I heard Android are more likely to get hacked.

The S3 won't come out until 5/29/12, but I think I can wait...

so should I? or would you? or would you rather get the HTC One X?

Answer
I'm thinking same thing and am a Mac user also with similar concerns to yourself - torn between getting S3 now or waiting to see what iOS6 might bring in a few weeks...

Anyway to clarify, Android doesnt natively sync with iTunes, but you can get various applications to make it work - kind of. Have a look at Google play for iSyncr which uses your iTunes playlists and can also have a wifi sync option. Otherwise there are other things like DoubleTwist which replicate iTunes functions but within their own application, search the web theres loads of info.

Like most other Android OS devices it comes with turn-by-turn nav built in, so while maybe not as good / nice as the TomTom iOS app, you can work with that. I found in general the Google play store is getting better, but like you some apps arent there. To me they also look a bit more - I can't describe it - icky? But they function well. Biggest gripe for me is that there seems to be no constants with them, sometimes the menu key does something, other times it doesn't, but then that happens in iOS too, just maybe not as obvious...YMMV.

Calendar, mail and notes can all be set to sync with Google, just search the web on advice how to, and then change the iPad and Mac to match that. Its a bit of a leap and IMHO, the iOS ecosystem just works better with a Mac, but then you kind of expect that. You can certainly integrate Android into it though.

iPhone questions...?

Mike

I'm thinking of getting an iPhone and I have a few questions.

I always thought using the internet on a cell phone costs money, but according to my friend it doesn't. is this true?

Cingular has the two-year contract discount for phones. Does that discount cover iPhones as well?

Does it work just like an iPod does when plugged into iTunes?

Also, does anyone have a list of functions or applications on the iPhone?

Thanks for the help!!

Answer
Hi, I'm a Sales Rep with At&t/Cingular...and an avid iPhone User!!!

Your friend is half right...the iPhone has a wifi receiver on the phone that allows you to access the internet anywhere a wifi (wireless router) connection is available. However, at&t charges $30/month for the use of data from their network on the iPhone, and REQUIRES that you add the $30 package to your account when you sign the contract for the iPhone.

Currently, the iPhone 3G is being subsidized by At&t when purchased with a new 2 year service agreement, such that you get the $500+ phone for $199 in the store. This subsidy has only recently gone into effect (with the launch of the new iPhone 3G in July), and is only available to customers who are currently able to "upgrade" their phone by signing a new 2 year contract.

The iphone (in it's latest firmware version) works exactly like an ipod when synced with iTunes 7.7 or higher. There are a few differences associated with increased functionality of the phone over a regular iPod though...for example, the iphone has options for syncing email/calendars via outlook, purchasing/installing ringtones for the device, and downloading/installing 3rd party applications from the itunes app store.

Here's a quick rundown of the standard features/apps on the iphone:
Push/Pull email over the phone (for most email providers)
YouTube Client
Itunes Store (you can purchase/download music and apps directly to the phone even when disconnected from the computer)
Google Maps (With GPS Location)
2 MP Camera
A Clock App (with timer, stopwatch, alarm clock, & world clock)
A calendar/Address Book
A Weather App (To view Local Weather Conditions)
And a Photo Viewer

These are just the basics of the phone, for more information, visit http://www.phonescoop.com for a more complete list of specifications for the iPhone.

In addition to the apps listed above, there are countless FREE applications available for download via the itunes app store.

Let me know if you have any further questions or need further clarification on any of the above.

Good Luck,

CB

Iphone 5 vs Galaxy S4 for a teen?

Alice

I'm 17, and due for a new phone. Most of my friends at school have the iPhone 5 and they look amazing, but I read stuff saying that the S4 is so much better. But the iPhone 5 has facetime, and it can act as my ipod, so I'm split. The main things I want from a phone are:
1. Something that will last at least 2 years. My HTC I've had this time started dying after a year and a half.
2. Good battery life
3. Good cameras, front and back.
4. Good, free apps
5. A phone that I can easily connect my itunes, as my ipod's also died now.
5. Good memory, so can download loads of apps, and store a lot of photos and music.
6. A contract no more than £30 per month. Cheaper is preferable.
7. A fast phone that doesn't take ages to load all the time.
Based on these points, which phone is best for me?
Thanks for your help :)
Is it possible to put my music from my itunes onto a galaxy s4 easily?

Answer
Just because they are sold in the same shops they are not in the same league.

1) Everyone recommends the IP5 and NEVER mentions the price. iPhone prices / tariffs on any all networks defy logic and gravity

2) Slick advertising does NOT mention this http://finance.yahoo.com/news/8-things-the-iphone-5-still-can-t-do.html?_view=desktop&desktop_view_default=true

THREE as "3" was just too short***
The Samsung Galaxy S II (2)was released in MAY 2011 & has 1.2Ghz Dual Core processor with an 8Mp camera.

18 months later November 2012 Apple puts a 12Ghz Dual Core processor & 8Mp camera in a phone and call it the IP5

4) iPhones play catch up what is on an iPhone came out months before on other makes. Eg the iPhone4 was the FIRST iPhone to have a camera flash yeah 2010 .

A total of 9 things are missing as ALL IPHONES do NOT have BLUETOOTH MEDIA TRANSFER! so NO sharing SGS II 9 MORE, SGS III 9 MORE S IV 9 MORE,

The IP5S released anytime within the next 3 to 4 months it being an S will be a tweak so still Dual Core IMO the other IP5S will NOT surpass the BB Z10 (Which is the best Dual Core phone in this the Samsung Galaxy)
Windows 8 phones have 1.5GHz processor as 'standard'

Dismiss the above as there is an alternative "A" nswer. The Geekbench 2 scores make the S IV the fastest phone on this planet http://www.primatelabs.com/blog/2013/03/samsung-galaxy-s-4-benchmarks/

*** The SGS II is the Dual Core version of the Quad Core SGS III both SGS II & SGS III have won 6 PHONE OF THE YEAR AWARDS.

If you want the BEST DUAL CORE PHONE MADE BY SAMSUNG TO DATE UNTIL THE S4 MINI comes along get the SGS II, or put another way, The 5th Samsung phone is superior to the best Apple.
In order S IV; SGS III & NOTE 2 [ Quad Core] S 4Mini [July 2013] SGS II

APPLE is years behind everybody not just Samsung, Eg the gorgeous BB Z10 specs made it the Dual Core phone on the planet, surpassing Windows 8.
The S4 Mini will take back that throne however the Z10 appearance outshines all iPhones

Should I get a 32gb or 64gb iPhone 4S?

Michael

I currently have a 16gb iPhone 4 and I have gotten a message saying I have no more space to install items. I have had to delete apps in order to free up space, but this isn't that big of an issue thanks to iCloud allowing me to re-download all previous apps, even purchased. The new iPhone 4S is rumored to be available with optional 64gb storage capacity, along with 16, and 32gb. I want to have my device future proofed, as I believe apps, especially gaming, will no doubt increase in size due to their increasing complexity. I have few hundred songs, a few movies, many gaming apps, photos, etc. Also, the included 1080p recording capability will increase amount of consumed space. Is it a safer bet to buy 64gb or 32gb? I am also going to sell upon arrival of new model in 2012.

Answer
If you plan on shooting any decent amount of 1080p video get the 64 GB. I just made a post on my blog calculating the approximate usage for video and it's 178 MB per min (10.4 GB/ hour). So that can add up quick.

What effects do they put on hipster or indie pictures?

Smile

Like this one
http://schooldesigner.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/hipster-girl-photography-tumblrim-realistic-08izvufw.jpg

Or other ones where you can see the shadows and colors look great and indie-like

Answer
Well there are all sorts of ways people do this. To me, the image you sent is a pretty average example of a hipster image, as you can take far better ones and edit them to make them look much nicer. A very easy to get these effects is by using apps on smartphones. Even if you don't take the picture on the phone, you can put it on your phone and edit it from there. Apps I've come across that make your photos look 'hipster' or 'indie' are:

Tangent - for shapes and overlays on your photos
VSCOcam - for filters that look like films
Afterlight - for some more filters and options
Faded - for filters, shapes and scratches so they look like film
Fragment - to make your images look triply but re arranging parts of it in shapes

Those are all on iPhone. Another approach if you have professional software on your computer like Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop is to get VSCO film plugin for Lightroom. That is an easy way to emulate a film look on your photos. Here is a photo I took and edited in Lightroom using VSCO film plugin. You will be able to get this same effect on most of those iPhone apps I mentioned. Sorry about my brother's stupid face in this picture. I just couldn't find another one that demonstrated the effect as I've only just started using VSCO Film.

Hope this helps.

Are you happy with your iPhone?

I am thinking about getting an iPhone⦠what are the pros and cons?

Answer
I LOVE my iPhone. I had the very first one, and now I have the newest iPhone 3GS. I highly recommend it.

APPS
There are thousands of applications for everything and anything. I split my iPhone into sections too because I have so many apps. I have my games ones, which a lot of them you can play online against complete strangers, or with your friends next to you in person, or with your friends over wi-fi, my school apps, which has the periodic table, language translator, Chinese words, flash cards, homework reminder, a planner, my news apps, music apps, etc. They seriously have an application for everything you can think of, even some sort of pointless but still addictive ones like how fast you can roll up toilet paper. And if you have a super specific app in mind that they don't have (which is sometimes hard to believe with all of the ones they have already), you can always make it yourself or there are hundreds of people online who ask for projects to do so they can make your app and practice their coding and stuff. Plus, there are so many companies making iPhone apps, if they don't already have one. Like they have MovieFone and Fandango, where you can check out movie times, reviews, and even order your tickets. Qdoba and PizzaHut have apps that allow you to order what you want from your iPhone. RedLaser is a cool app that allows you to scan a barcode of anything, and it'll immediately search online and show you all the prices of different sites online of that exact item you scanned.

GPS / MAPS
I've saved so many printed out pieces of paper of directions from MapQuest and GoogleMaps after buying my iPhone. It's seriously so easy to search locations or restaurants or any place online and then it telling me how to get there from my current location. Plus, if you really want to get the better talking GPS, they have apps for that (I usually switch around between the Maps it comes with and the ones that talk to you depending on where I'm going and how familiar I am with the place).

INTERNET / MAIL
It's SOOOOOOOO handy to have internet on your phone and everywhere you go, especially for checking e-mail accounts too. Like if you're a business person or even have an e-mail for colleges (which is what I'm doing right now), it's super helpful. I link multiple e-mails on my iPhone at once, and it tells you whenever you get a new e-mail. Having internet in general is just really handy, especially in today's life. I can always search stuff on the spot, whether it's for school, or even for fun.

CONS
People who don't have AT&T will say that having to switch over to AT&T is one of their cons. But really, you don't have to if you don't want to. You can definitely get an iPhone and unlock and use it with whatever carrier you choose to (Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) There are also certain specifics that some iPhone users will say they don't like about their phone, but a lot of the applications they have in the App Store fixes them. For example, the copy and paste that the iPhone comes with is very simple, you just select what you want and can copy or cut and paste it somewhere else. But then there's a 5-star app called PasteBot which enhances the regular iPhone's copy and paste a ton. The app runs in the background and saves everything you ever copy into their app, and then when you open it you can organize everything you've copied (including pictures), filter them, e-mail them, sync them, etc. Another example would be the iPhone's camera app. There are a ton of REALLY good iPhone photography apps in the App Store. A lot of them even have a self-timer, can create time-lapses, and even show a grid on the screen so if you want make sure whatever you're taking a picture of is straight or is following the photographic two-thirds rule, etc. Basically what I'm trying to get at is the main cons that do come with the iPhone's standard settings or apps, can easily be fixed by the apps.

Overall, I would just really recommend an iPhone. And you can't go wrong without it. If you have any questions, definitely let me know!

What are some good photo editing apps?

hellogoodb

I see all these people's pictures and they're amazing, for example, I will see a picture of someone, and it looks like they've drawn a cartoon Indian hat on their hand. Another one looked like a girl courtseying, but her skirt was see through, and you could see the city. One more was a girl, with a shape outlining the picture, like a triangle or circle, and it had this really cool text. And the last one I saw that I liked, was a girls eye but her pupil had the galaxy pattern. Does ANYONE know what apps they do to use these? Thanks!

Answer
Citrify, iPiccy, PicMonkey, Ribbet, Picadilo, Fotor, FotoFlexer or Lunapic are great all round web based and FREE editing tools. Adobe, makers of the expensive Photoshop, has a free website version in Photoshop Express. If you are a former Picnik user than Picmonkey and Ribbet will be your best choices.

If you need/want more features downloading GIMP is a great options. Still free, but you have to download the software.

Can I recover deleted photos from iPhone 4s?

panda

I recently got an iPhone 4s and I'm still trying to figure out how to use it.
I accidentally erased a few very important photos from the Camera Roll this evening and I was wondering if there is any way I can recover them? I have not synced the phone with iTunes so that is out of the question. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Answer
Connect iPhone to computer, and then open "Computer", iPhone should show as a drive letter there. If not, please follow these instructions: In iTunes, right click on your iPhone and select "iPhone Options". Under the "iPhone" tab, make a tick in "Enable Disk Use". Click OK. Unplug your iPhone, then replug.

Now follow steps below
Step1: Download this photo recovery software, then install and launch it in Windows machine correctly.
http://www.tucows.com/preview/981749
Step2: Sync your iPhone with computer. Then you should see it shows as a drive letter in 'My Computer' like H:/.
Step3: Select iPhone drive letter and then click "Next", you will find all your lost files in the lists.
Step4: After the automatic scanning, it's time to finish all the steps by clicking "Recover" easily to Recover your files!

pics from iphone to cmp?

Izik

i want to either transfer my photos from my iphone (3gs) to either my laptop or a CD-R. but every where i look online, it's telling me i need to BUY software to transfer my own stuff. i think that's a load and there's got to be a way to do it. i've tried the back-up in itunes, but it only did my music.. i could care less about my music, i can just put it back on... but my pics are from my old cmp and i don't want to lose them.

ooorrr, if you know a way to just add a folder to the iphone without replacing my current photos, that'd be chill too. that's what i'm REALLY trying to do, but i thought "if i have to replace them, let's back them up first" lol.

any ideas?
the dialog box that pops up will only transfer my camera roll, the photos i've taken with the iphone itself. It won't take the ones on the actual iphone... the ones i transferred from my old cmp (that is now broken and gone). i can't sync with the new laptop without replacing all of my stuff... i guess i should have made that clearer, sorry.
i'd hate to get all caps-y, but you're not reading it all.

I KNOW HOW TO GET MY CAMERA ROLL OFF OF THE IPHONE. I WANT THE PHOTO LIBRARY OFF OF IT. the other photo library on the iphone. not the pictures i took with the camera that saved to the phone. the import option only imports THOSE from the camera roll.. i've tried.

there is no explore, but when you hit open, it brings me to the camera roll pics (eventually) that i have already uploaded to my cmp.

Answer
There's a few options.

Firstly, plug it into your pc and browse the iPhone files from my computer. (Right click on iPhone and click 'explore'. If you find them them just copy and paste them onto your laptop.

Alternatively, on the sync window on iTunes, theres a photos tab where you can choose which photos to sync.

If that doesn't work, download this program called iFunBox. It let's you view the raw system files of the iPhone, and you can just browse the iPhone to look for where the photos are saved like you would look for an old document in windows explorer by checking every folder.

A word of warming with iFunbox though. If you browse the iPhone files via my computer, then you only see like two unimportant folders. IFunbox shows you all the files, even the important system ones. Don't do anything dumb like deleting important system files otherwise you will have to restore. Just use copy/paste to avoid deleting anything.

And if you don't want to do that, then just go to camera roll, where you can see all the little thumbnails of the pics, and click the share button at the top. Then email them to yourself, and then you can download them off your email via your laptop.

EDIT: oh, sorry i didnt realise there was another album, i thought you meant pics in the camera roll - whenever i sync pics onto my phone, they go straight into camera roll :S.

Anyway, I still recommend iFunbox.

Should I buy an iPod touch 4g or Digital Camera?

I want to buy a Digital Camera (which I have the money for) but then my friend told me to get an Ipod Touch 4G instead, I don't have all the money for it but she said that she and our other friends would chip in and she might see if my parents can chip in as well... I'm not sure though because I enjoy taking photos but an Ipod Touch has more features and a bit more entertainment.
so which do you think I should get? please give reasons for your answers if you can

well if i had a choice i would go for the ipod touch there are 100's of camera apps, there are apps like imovie, splice and reeldirector that allow you to edit videos on the device and upload them to youtube from the device, image browsing is nicely done and there great memory to store the photos, there are also loads of camera apps that are really good like aging booth that make you look old instalapse to make timetapse videos adobe photoshop express and 1000s of photo editors with so much choice and thats just the photo side of what the device can do

on the other side a digital camera is more likely to be a bit better quality but most likely wont be as user friendly as the ipod touch (id go for the ipod)

Iphone "other" category issue?

Brianna

I desperately need to lower the "other" category. I have 2.6 GB of music; 0.98 GB of photos; 3.6 GB of apps, and 5.6 GB OF OTHER! It takes ups the majority of space on my phone! I only have 1.30 GB of free space. I've heard that restoring it can solve it but I had a horrible experience with restoring my iphone in the past. I've tried erasing a lot of texts, my safari history, etc. Is there any way of fixing this without restoring? & and if i HAVE to restore, it will delete my photos, texts, and music, correct?

Answer
Read this:
http://menoob.com/iphone/how-to-reduce-the-size-of-your-iphones-other-files/#.UYgCiMrcDvE

Step 1: Turn of sync music in iTunes
When you have synced your iPhone and noticed that âother filesâ have taken up a lot of storage space on the iPhone, un-tick the âsync musicâ alternative in iTunes before un-connecting your iPhone.

Step 2: Install DiskAid software on computer/mac (Instead of using DiskAid (paid), I used iPhone Explorer (which is free.))
DiskAid is a neat little software that allows you transfer files to your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, treating it as a USB drive. They offer a free trial of the software so no need to purchase it first time you have to use it at least.
Make sure your iPhone is connected with the USB when you open up DiskAid. When the program is running, at the bottom left corner it says âDiskAid folderâ, click on the drop down list and choose âmedia foldersâ.

Step 3: Go into iTunes Control folder and then the Music folder
In DiskAid you will see an overview of all the folders and files on your iPhone. Go to the iTunes Control Folder and then the subfolder called Music. Under the Music folder you will likely see a lot of subfolders starting with âfâ.

Step 4: Delete/remove all subfolders in Music
Delete all the subfolders under the Music folder. They include the files that are hogging your iPhone memory under âother filesâ.

Step 5: Open iTunes and sync your iPhone
With âmusic syncâ still turned off in iTunes, sync your iPhone. This will remove all music files from your iPhone, but keep all other content. Donât worry about this though, as in the next steps you will sync the music back onto your iPhone.

Step 6: Unplug iPhone and reboot it
Once the iPhone has finished syncing, unplug it and perform a reboot. The reboot is done by holding down the âpower downâ button at the top right at the same times as holding down the control button. Hold both of them until the iPhone has switched off and the Apple logo appears on the screen before releasing both buttons. This action will reboot your iPhone.

Step 7: Reconnect your iPhone to iTunes and recheck âsync musicâ
This will put your music back onto the iPhone, and you should not see any of the âother filesâ taking up any of the iPhone memory. Once the sync is complete your iPhone should be all sorted again.
If you still see âother filesâ taking up memory on your iPhone you have likely done something wrong or left out subfolders in step 4.
Also, delete the same type of sub-folders in the PWNTunes Itunes Control folder as well if you are jailbroken and have PWNTunes installed.

Cute photo editing apps?

kate

I want some cute photo editing apps for iPhone and was wondering if anyone knew any? I want one that will make my pictures like ariana grandes on instagram, does anyone know what app she uses? Thanks :)

Answer
Hello kate, there are several cute photo editing apps. you can easily download it from the internet which are absolutely free. they are listed below.

1. Adobe Photoshop Express
The Photoshop Express app from Adobe is a reliable photo editing solution for quick fixes and playing around. It allows you to reduce red eye on photographs, reduce noise, distort images and its most recent version also has a number of filters to choose from. This app has great reviews on the App Store.

2. Instagram
Instagram is owned by Facebook and in recent times it has grown to over 90 million users. The Instagram app available to download for all iOS devices is not so much a photo editing app but more of a photo filter app and social network combined, as is the Instagram service.

3. Snapseed
Snapseed is perhaps the best photo editing app on this list. It is a very clever app that will automatically adjust your photo to create the very best final image. It features pinch to zoom effects and framing, and also allows you to create light leaks, as well as change saturation and brightness.

4. Aviary
Aviary is one of those apps that when downloaded you wonder how you ever got by without it. Aviary is a wonderful photo filter and editing app that merges the best of Photoshop Express and Snapseed.

5. BeFunky
BeFunky is a neat application for iOS devices that has rave reviews on iTunes. Its appeal comes from its combination of Instagram and Flickr features, allowing users to easily share their photographs and apply filters.

Are there any iPhone apps similar to photo shop?

Isabella

So, I have some pictures that I want to edit, but all of the apps I found just let you change the contrast and color. I want one that will let me add something into the photo. Any ideas? Thanks!

Answer
Do you want to combine multiple photos or add decorations? There are photo-frame apps that let you put several photos together. InFrame Foto is a good one, or I like PicFrame too.

But if you want to use layers, like in Photoshop, most of those apps are only available for the iPad.

Pro HDR app for iPhone?

Bruce

Hi! Does the Pro HDR app allow you to chose 2 photos from your library and merge them, or do you have to use the in app camera? thanks!
Thanks for your answer Rain Man, but I don't have a pc. iPad only! Thanks.

Answer
I recommend using a computer HDR program like Photomatix. It merges better and will allow you to process them 10x better than an iPhone app. Thats just me though. You can always sync your photos to your computer from your phone

EDIT: Oh I'm sorry. If you have an iPad 2 or the 3rd one recently came out. I guess the program is good then. I'll link you some topics about that. I have an iPad 2 as well and sometimes I take photos with my DSLR Nikon and I purchased from Apple a SD card transfer. What it is its basically a little slot where you can put your SD/memory card inside the slot that goes where you charger your iPad. You know on the bottom of the iPad, iPhone, iPod touch etc. It will sync your camera photos onto iPhoto on your iPad. You can use any camera too! I recommend using a camera instead of iPad camera, then you upload to your iPhoto and have your HDR program do the work! :) Here's some links

Can an iPad replace a laptop?

Torrie

I'm a student who is wishing to have a faster, more up-to-date and in-the-know laptop. I've recently seen that the iPad has a lot of super apps that work in the same way a PC does-- would an iPad be an acceptable, efficient replacement of a laptop PC or Mac? Of course you'd have to have a computer to sync already purchased music on your iPad, correct?

Answer
â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬ Edit â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬

No, an iPad is not meant to be a notebook (or netbook) replacement (PC or Mac), although you can get a bluetooth keyboard, mouse and a stand for it (like "Kahless" below suggested, which was a good point). But, it's more for leisure use and not meant for serious, extended work. It's pretty much a really big iPod Touch. If you are a student, a notebook will be the way to go for doing school work, such as research, assignments, taking notes, etc. Here is what iPad cannot do:

⢠I don't know how productive you can be on a 9.7" device that does not multi-task.
⢠You cannot watch Flash videos, because it does not support Flash.
⢠There is no USB port, which means you cannot transfer files, backup to an external HDD or connect your iPod or any other devices.
⢠Cannot install programs other than apps.
⢠No optical drive. Cannot connect an external DVD drive either, because there is USB port.
⢠Doesn't have SD card reader to upload your photos from your digital camera.
⢠Doesn't have camera to video chat.
⢠For everything that it doesn't do for school purposes, think about the cost.
⢠Not comfortable/convenient to take notes in class.

â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬

Here is something that really summarizes everything:
http://www.blameitonthevoices.com/2010/02/ipad-vs-notebook.html

Rather than thinking about iPad vs. notebook for school, you should look into "netbook" vs. notebook. Here are two answers I wrote that maybe helpful:
http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtEDrL5otZ8nuLFGX82risfBFQx.;_ylv=3?qid=20110206202305AAc2ygn
http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Al488785hVNuejoxT3uLfGjBFQx.;_ylv=3?qid=20110212121628AAAetmq

â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬

Yes, you'll need a computer with iTunes to sync your music. If you are planning to use your iPad just for the purpose of music, then I would suggest that you purchase an iPod or iPod Touch, which would be much cheaper and smaller to carry around. I don't think you are going to be in the bus holding your iPad in your hands to listen to music.

â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬â¬

If you are looking for a good, free antivirus program, download "Microsoft Security Essentials". You should always have an antivirus program for Windows, because there are tons of viruses out there since it's the most widely used operating system (95% of computers sold are PCs). http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

"BUMP" app for iPhone question?

Nicolas

can i get free app and music with bump.

so if a friend has an app can he "bump" it to me (or transfer it to me)??
I don't think it works like that cause it would just be weird but I want to know :P

Answer
You can "bump" apps and music, but don't expect to get paid content for free. When "bumping" apps, only the app's Marketplace link is sent so the recipient can find it, rather than the app itself.

From the Bump FAQ:

"Q: Is Bump just for sharing my own contact information?

A: No way! Today with Bump you can share photos, music, apps, other people's contact information, compare calendars and send invites, even connect on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn right on the spot (depending on which version of the app you have)! Once you have bumped with someone, you can then send contacts, send photos and interact with social networks in our new chat feature without having to Bump again. We are always working to update Bump with cool new features, so if you have suggestions please don't hesitate to contact us! We love hearing from the users."
http://bu.mp/faq

A few relevant quotes about the restrictions:

"Android users can bump only one app at a time, but it should work for Android versions 1.5 and higher. However, keep in mind that it will only bring up apps available in your version of the Market. If your phone canât access paid apps, a Bump for a paid app wonât work."
http://androinica.com/2010/04/bump-lets-android-users-instantly-share-apps-by-bumping-phones/

"Hi all, I am one of the founders of Bump Technologies, the company
behind the Bump app on Android.

Bump does not allow users to share paid apps for free. All we do is
share a link to the App Market so your friend can find the app (and
hopefully purchase it) easier. Our goal was to make it easier to tell
your friends about your favorite apps, this way they don't have to
search the App Market."

Iphone 3gs or Samsung Galaxy Ace?

Asimina

i own Samsung Galaxy Ace.. its a pretty good phone but the memory it has is not enough for me, so im buying iphone 3gs for 150 euros which is pretty cheap. which one is better in your opinion and why? i mainly care about the memory, photos and stuff like that.

Answer
I really am sorry but why?
And why a moribund IPhone 3GS which is DISCONTINUED

It came out in June 2009 (LAST DECADE) 3.5 years ago that is nearly 2 FULL CONTRACTS ago

The IP 3GS has a 3MP camera NO flash, NO FM radio, No stereo speakers, NO!
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=2826&idPhone2=3724

The price paid or tariffs commanded (no demanded) by iPhones...on any every network defy logic and gravity

By memory I think you mean RAM ( this is as you can see MORE than the IP 3GS) the SG Ace can take a 32Gb card which is more than the[ NO WARRANTY] IP 3GS FIXED 8GB
If you are getting messages re memory when trying to open applications you need to shut down those apps you are NOT using and regularly delete browsing history and delete the cache

Everything you " view" is held in RAM, the SG Ace has 278Mb of RAM, each app you open uses some of the 278 Mb until none is left (browsing history just sits there in the background even if you are NOT on the net, the last web page you visited is stored on the phone in RAM

The IP 3GS has a 3MP camera NO flash, NO FM radio, No stereo speakers, NO!
Get the SG ACE 2 and leave the IP 3GS for Indiana Jones

iPhone 3GS vs. HTC Inspire?

morganpatt

I will be getting my AT&T upgrade this weekend. I'm torn between the two phones. I want an iPhone 4, but the 3GS is cheaper and my dad is already complaining about prices since he already has an iPhone. I might be able to persuade him into the 4, though. The biggest reason I want an iPhone over an HTC is that my iPod Nano no longer works, and my iTouch was stolen. So, I say, why not kill two birds with one stone in getting an iPhone? But, who knows. The HTC Inspire has good features, too, though. The top features i'm looking for are music player, apps/browser, messaging, and battery life.

So those of you who have either, or maybe have had both..
Sell me on one or the other.
I need serious and helpful opinions!

Oh, and any tips for convincing my dad on the iPhone?

Answer
iPhone 3GS all the way.

I have an iPhone 4 and it is fantastic. I have two phones and the iPhone is easily most used. Its great for internet browsing, and photo taking. Its got an iPod in it too! Who doesnt know how to use an iPod?

The 3GS is a year or 2 old now, but it still packs a punch. Its a great phone. Totally go for it.
If Android is your thing, go for the HTC Inspire.

As for convincing your dad..
You could open up iTunes and go to the App Store and show him the educational apps available. He wouldnt mind letting you get it if it will help with your studies.

You could also say that you will use your pocket money (allowance) towards it.

Why iphone sells more than android?

RKO RULZ

i mean iphone is pricier over equivalent specced android device.iphone
1.does allow bluetooth file sharing,sd card support
2.no custom rom or launcher.cant even change theme unless jailbroken
3.no user replacable battery, acessories and service cost a hell lot.
4.many says they dont like windows phone because its very restrictive, then why people are okay with iphone.
5.also why girls/women prefer iphone over android.
a good evidence of girls prefering iphone over android is here ya community itself.also how many women or girl do you see carrying around a galaxys2 or lumia800 compared to iphone.by windows phone mango is a better os than ios apple fanboys wont agree coz they hadnt used one simply see many comparisons done by tech blogs. and websites like gsm arena.i personally found ios very boring, its is nothing unique as windows nor a dynamics and exciting os as android.

Answer
1. Many people don't need Bluetooth file transfers, and many people don't need extra storage; if they need the room, they buy a 32GB or 64GB phone.

2. Go out on the street and ask a random person what an ROM or launcher is. Does the average user really care about that? And as far as the theme goes, changing the background is enough for average people; if not, then they'll jailbreak.

3. The battery thing is irrelevant. Most smartphones these days use built-in lithium ion batteries because they can make the phone thinner. Accessories are only expensive if they're Apple-made; third-party accessories run about the same prices as those made for any other phone. Service on-warranty is free. There's a HUGE online community of people that can do free tech support over forums and such. Apple service off-warranty is expensive because it's some of the best customer service you'll find.

4. Windows phone has nothing to do with the comparison between the iPhone and Android.

5. Where do you get this statistic from? I suspect you made it up to try and support your argument; if it's legitimate, find me a reliable source that says that women prefer the iPhone more than men do.

The reasons I prefer my iPhone over Android devices I've used in the past:

-It has a gorgeous hardware design, and the Retina display is the best display I've ever seen in a phone.

-I prefer iOS over Android or Windows phone. It has a clean design and is the same no matter what device you're on; there are no inconsistencies due to manufacturer skins being put on the operating system.

-I think that the App Store is more organized and varied than other application markets for Android. I also like knowing that ALL of my apps have gone through testing by Apple and trust that they don't carry malware.

-iTunes is heaven-sent. I have friends who have gone through hell trying to manually go through their Android, transfer all their iTunes music over to their Android syncing program, and it takes a while. Being able to organize all of my files on my computer beforehand and then just sync it to my phone over WiFi is nice.

-The Apple ecosystem. My iPhone, iPad, and Macbook are always on the same page with iCloud; my contacts, calendar, photos, notes and reminders, documents, text messages, email, and way more are all exactly the same on everything, and I can seamlessly go from one device to the other without having to copy anything over.

-iPhone is made by Apple. Many people think that it's some horrible, obsessive thing to like Apple, but I really couldn't care less. I've had a better experience with Apple products than I've ever had with any other computers or phones, and I find them to be very reliable. When I have a problem, they give me a solution quickly, though problems are very rare in my experience. They're known for making sleek products that look and perform well inside and out, and I think that's true. Other companies throw in all kinds of features and specs, but they don't necessarily execute them well; Apple does.

S4 or IPhone 5? Which is better?

Nena Smith

Which phone is better and why?
Best answer gets 10ppointss!!

Answer
I have a iPhone 5 but the s4 is sooo much better this I a why
1. It is quicker (1.9 quad core processor/ 1.6ghz Octa core vs 1.3 dual core processor)

2. Microsd- you can expand the memory with a 64gb microsd. This a cheaper way to expand your memory and you can have a 16 gb S4 and still have more storage than iphone 5 if you get a 64gb microsd.

3. USB OTG- you can read usb keys no problem with an adapter so you can check out what's on them so you don't have to put your computer on.

4. Microusb charger- Better than the lighting connector as you can get them easily and cheaply but also you might have it from other devices as it is becoming standard for smartphones to use micro-usb chargers.

5. Removable battery- This means you can replace the battery if you run out of charge when you are around unlike the iphone 5 which you have to charge or bring an external charger and charge it from there, however this is an awkward way of charging your phone. Also the removable battery can help you prevent water damage as you can remove the battery if it falls in water, thus reducing the chances of water damage.

6. NFC- Want to transfer a music album quicker than bluetooth, well now you can with NFC. You can also use Tectiles 2 to make your life easier

7. Customizable- Change launcher(Are you bored, get a new launcher that suits you and your personality), custom ROM your phone and have access to apps specifically made for rooted devices directly on the play store. You control the device so that it suits you.

8. Dropbox- Love cloud storage well Samsung is offering 50gb free of charge to S4 owners for 2 years on Dropbox. Backup music, video, photos(this can be done automatically), documents etc. Who doesnât want this amount of free cloud storage?(You have to complete a certain amount of steps to get the free storage but none requires any credit card details or anything to complicated) (N.B Not everyone will be offered this bonus as carriers have been known to have stopped Samsung from offering this to customers)

9. Screen- Itâs bigger but not too big. It has 441ppi vs iPhone 5âs 326ppi plus the Amoled screen creates beautiful colors.
I also found no problems when using one hand, and I have medium hands if not small hands.

10. Android features-Widgets, live wallpapers, Google Now and all the beauty of android, widgets on the lockscreen etc

11. Samsung added features
a. Smartstay- won't turn the screen off if you are still looking at it.
b. Smartpause- pauses a video when you turn around and turns it back on when you turn back
c. Eye controlled webpage scrolling
d. Airview- check link to learn more http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsung-Galaxy-S-4-display-Air-View-and-Air-Gesture-demoed-on-video_id40881
e. Infrared TV remote
f. External temperature and humidity sensors
g. Use the phone while using gloves
h. S Health- useful for health enthusiasts
i. S Translator- itâs all in the name a translator
j. Blocking Mode- activate it to block things like calls, notifications, messages, LED indicator etc
k. Power Saving Mode- Can be used to save power by limiting the processor speeds, turning of Haptic feedback, using less power for the screen and changing the color in the stock browser and email app
l. Home screen modes- for beginners it makes the home screen setup easier
m. Etc- I could go on but check the link to see even more features

12. Camera- It has a 13mp camera vs iPhone 5âs 8mp. It has more features than than the iPhoneâs camera which makes it even better. this link shows how the S4 has the best smartphone camera)
a. Dual shot- take photos from both cameras so that you can include the photographer in a photo
b. Photo with audio message- record a message before or after a photo to add to a photo
c. Eraser shot- can remove unwanted moving content
d. Drama shot- takes pictures of a moving object and puts the moving object through the whole picture
e. More but those are the best

13. Multitasking- watch videos while online, write an email while watching a video, send a message while surfing the web, you can split the screen in two so you can multitask without a bother, this cannot be done on the iPhone 5.

14. Durability- The S4 does not suffer from scratches like the iphone 5 where the back of the phone is aluminium and scratches really easy, the S4 does not suffer this fate

I would get the s4:3

Question about my Iphone sync process?

biff

When I sync my iphone with my photos. Everything goes on the phone as planed. But when I go to add one more photos it takes off every photo I just put on there and leaves the one I just added.

This also happens with adding my music and apps.

If I want to add a extra photo, song, or app. I have to add it with everything else that is already on the phone. Am I doing to the hard way or is this the only way?

Answer
that is exactly what sync is supposed to do.
because the iphone doesnt support drag and drop, you must sync every file you want included.. if you want to add a picture later, then you must resync every file including the new one.
this is why syncing sucks compared to drag and drop

iPhone 3G applications, anyone?

LauLew

I'm deciding on whether to get an iPhone or not, I've read up on all of the reviews but can't seem to find much information about the free applications it comes with?
As for Michael and Jarv, it's a shame noone can give an honest answer anymore.

Answer
Why would the factory-installed apps matter? It's all about the app store where there are tons of free apps.

Nonetheless, the factory-installed apps on the 3g are the calendar, photo album, camera, youtube, notebook, calculator, iTunes, App Store, Weather, Settings, iPod, Safari, mail, texts, contacts, voice memos, clock, maps, stocks and phone.

Hold off on any iPhone purchase until the new iPhone is released this summer. It's anticipated to be a significant upgrade.

What are some good photo editing apps for Windows 8?

Aiman

It has to be easy to use, i can edit text onto the picture and everything, and be free.

Answer
Citrify, iPiccy, PicMonkey, Ribbet, FotoFlexer or Lunapic are great all round web based and FREE editing tools. Adobe, makers of the expensive Photoshop, has a free website version in Photoshop Express.

If you need/want more features downloading GIMP is a great options. Still free, but you have to download the software.

I'm looking for good free photo and or video editing apps for windows 8?

Jennifer

So I help run a page about bands on Facebook you know post pictures and stuff. I have windows 8 I have the app fotor. it's fine but not always helpful. it's needs to be free. with fotor I can't do much with the texts or collages. please help me out.
the page is Darling, you'll be okay it's about bands you'll find on warped tour. thanks.

Answer
GIMP is the best free photo editor.
http://www.gimp.org/downloads/
Windows download is the first "Download" towards the top. You get the choice of ftp or http. This is a new download method for GIMP and, since I need this new version, I just closed my eyes and picked one:-) I'm downloading from the http site as I type this. There is a lot of documentation for GIMP. There is also a new users manual.

Free video editors for Windows computers are rare things. All of them are limited. The free versions of commercial professional editors (Lightworks and IVSEdits) are picky about the kinds of files they accept and the kinds of files they output. They are also huge programs with steep learning curves.

There are two smaller editors, Shotcut and Avidemux. I've never used either one of them but they are supposed to be suitable for beginners to intermediate users.

Scroll down and on the right under the downloads links see the note for Windows 8 users.

I like to use ArtStudio Lite, its not so much a photo filters app but if you know a bit about photo manipulation it works quite well. I use it more for digital painting though.

which software I need to download for running java?

I own you

which software I need to download to run java programs
1) I only need to run the program through command line input -
using javac filename.java -> java filename
2) I downlaod java (TM) 6 update 12 , it doesn't work

3)The java company is so stupid, why do not call the software "Java - XXXX"? xxxx should be the year of production. what is the BS "(TM) 6 update 12" mean?

Answer
The iPhone OS's user interface is based on the concept of direct manipulation, using multi-touch gestures. Interface control elements consist of sliders, switches, and buttons. The response to user input is supposed to be immediate to provide a fluid interface. Interaction with the OS includes gestures such as swiping, tapping, pinching, and reverse pinching. Additionally, using internal accelerometers, rotating the device on its y-axis alters the screen orientation in some applications.

A home screen with application icons, and a dock at the bottom of the screen, showing icons for the applications the user accesses the most, is presented when the device is turned on or whenever the home button is pressed. The screen has a status bar across the top to display data, such as time, battery level, and signal strength. The rest of the screen is devoted to the current application. There is no concept of starting or quitting applications, only opening an application from the home screen, and leaving the application to return to the home screen. It is possible to force an application to quit by holding down the home button, however. While some multitasking is permitted it is not obtrusive or obvious. Third-party apps are quit when left, but with a future software update, notifications will be able to be pushed from Apple's servers to the iPhone or iPod touch. Many of the included applications were designed to work together; allowing for the sharing or cross-propagation of data from one application to another (e.g., a phone number can be selected from an email and saved as a contact or dialed for a phone call.)

[edit] Application support
The central processing unit used in the iPhone and iPod Touch is an ARM-based processor instead of the x86 (and previous PowerPC or MC680x0) processors used in Apple's Macintosh computers, and it uses OpenGL ES 1.1[6] rendering by the PowerVR 3D graphics hardware accelerator co-processor[7]. Mac OS X applications cannot be copied to and run on an iPhone OS device. They need to be written and compiled specifically for the iPhone OS and the ARM architecture. However, the Safari web browser supports "web applications," as noted below. Authorized third-party native applications are available for devices with iPhone OS 2.0 through Apple's App Store.

[edit] Included applications
In version 2.2, the iPhone home screen contains these default applications: SMS (Text messaging), Calendar, Photos, Camera, YouTube, Stocks, Maps (Google Maps with Assisted GPS), Weather, Clock, Calculator, Notes, Settings, iTunes (with access to the iTunes Music Store and iTunes Podcast Directory), App Store and Contacts. Four other applications delineate the iPhone's main purposes: Phone, Mail, Safari, and iPod.[8]

The iPod Touch retains many of the same applications that are present by default on the iPhone, with the exception of the Phone, SMS, and Camera apps. The "iPod" App present on the iPhone is split into two apps on the iPod Touch: Music, Videos and Podcasts. The bottom row of applications is also used to delineate the iPod Touch's main purposes: Music, Videos, Photos, and iTunes.

[edit] Web applications
At the 2007 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference Apple announced that the iPhone and iPod Touch will support third-party "applications" via the Safari web browser, referred to as web applications. The applications can be created using web technologies such as AJAX.[9]

[edit] Unsupported third-party native applications
See also: List of iPhone OS Applications
Currently, the iPhone and iPod Touch can only officially install full programs through the App Store.[10] However, from version 1.0 unauthorized third-party native applications are available.[11] Such applications face the possibility of being broken by any iPhone OS update, though Apple has stated it will not design software updates specifically to break native applications (other than applications that perform SIM unlocking).[12] The main distribution methods for these applications are the Installer and Cydia utilities, which can be installed on the iPhone after major methods of jailbreaking.

[edit] iPhone SDK

iPhone SDK included in Xcode 3.1 final. On October 17, 2007, in an open letter posted to Apple's "Hot News" weblog, Steve Jobs announced that a software development kit (SDK) would be made available to third-party developers in February 2008.[13] The SDK was released on March 6th, 2008, and allows developers to make applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch, as well as test them in an "iPhone simulator". However, loading an application onto the devices is only possible after paying an iPhone Developer Program fee. Since the release of Xcode 3.1, Xcode is the development environment for the iPhone SDK.

Developers are free to set any price for their applications to be distributed through the App Store, of which they will receive a 70% share. Developers can also opt to release the application for free
