Nokia Lumina 521??? 129$ Yay or Nay?

Maya

Im thinking about getting this phone but I never used a windows phone .I heard it dosent have Apps like Android. No instagram :-( But how are nokia lumnia 521 apps ? I mailnly use music apps,.YouTube,.instagram , Google maps, and photo editing. I heard the camera does not have flash either:-( . I currently have the mytouch HTC mytouch that came out like 3 yrs ago .Would the lumnia be considered a downgrade or a upgrade compared to my phone

Answer
Hi Maya,

I'd definitely recommend the Nokia Lumia 521 4G.

It has Facebook, Twitter, Xbox, Office and Skype built in. The home screen makes it really easy to organise your favourite people, apps and information. It has a large 4" screen, 8GB of storage with expandable memory and a really durable polycarbonate build material.

Windows Phone does not have as many apps as available on Android.
There is no official Instagram app, but there are free and paid third-party Instagram apps available - like Itsdagram (http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/store/app/itsdagram/ef18d20f-0ce9-426c-ad6a-04f42157bb19)
The phone has Nokia Music for completely free and unlimited music mixes - no ads, no login, no subscription. You can even download up to four music mixes to listen to offline; just choose your favourite artists and genres. Apps like Pandora, Spotify, VEVO, last.fm and YouTube are available from Windows Phone Store.
The phone has Nokia's HERE Maps and HERE Drive - for completely free, voice-guided, turn-by-turn navigation that can be worked completely offline. Unofficial 'Google Maps' apps (like gMaps) are also available from Windows Phone Store.
Photo editing apps like Nokia Creative Studio, fotor are available from Windows Phone Store.

The camera does not have a flash, but it does have a 5MP resolution.

Hope this helps!

Iphone 5 or Samsung Galaxy s4?

KRS

I have a phone upgrade so I kinda need some help picking out a phone. I'm a 15 year old girl and all I really use my phone for is instagram, facebook, twitter, tumblr, youtube, pandora, photography and picture editing apps at times, etc... I recently bought an iphone 3gs off ebay for like 50 dollars so I can see if I like ios and the iphone. I used to have the att impulse 4g but it broke, so that's why I bought the 3gs. Anyways, personally after using the 3gs for about 3 to 4 months I found ios to be quite boring and lacking much of the customization I wanted. All you can customize on ios is your wallpaper/lock screen. It made me really miss andriod. I am at this point leaning a bit more towards the galaxy because of the 13 megapixel camera. I also miss the widgets and such. The only thing I really liked about the iphone was how high security it was, the app store, and the emoji keyboard. My 2 aunts and cousin have the galaxy s3 and I've played around with theirs and I've grown fond of the galaxy and it's beautiful screen. My mom has the iphone 4s and to be honest the only thing I like about it is the camera and siri + the stuff mentioned above. Please help me, all of my friends have iphones, and I kinda want to be different by getting a galaxy, but I like the emoji's and siri on the iphone.
Oh, and I like how the gs4 has expandable memory for me that is pretty important.

Answer
If you rephrased your question it would read
"SGS II lite or S IV

Definitely NOT an IP5 as I don't want to downgrade

Reasons
1)The Samsung Galaxy S II (2)was released in MAY 2011 & has 1.2Ghz Dual Core processor with an 8Mp camera.

18 months later November 2012 Apple puts a 1.2Ghz Dual Core processor & 8Mp camera in a phone and call it the IP5

2)The SGS II is the Dual Core version of the Quad Core SGS III both SGS II & SGS III have won 6 PHONE OF THE YEAR AWARDS.

3)The SGS II is superior and has features not even on the Uber expensive IPhone5.
Not MY opinion proof http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3621&idPhone2=4238

4) ALL NON APPLE phones have BLUETOOTH MEDIA TRANSFER (SHARING) photos / music cannot be shared if one phone is an iPhone

5-12) http://finance.yahoo.com/news/8-things-the-iphone-5-still-can-t-do.html?_view=desktop&desktop_view_default=true

The BEST DUAL CORE PHONE MADE BY SAMSUNG TO DATE UNTIL THE S4 MINI comes along is the SGS II, half the price TWICE AS GOOD, those 8 things yes you've guessed it SGS II, CAN DO.

Or put another way the 5th Samsung phone is superior to the best iPhone
S IV; SGS III & NOTE 2 [Quad Core] S 4Mini SGS II

The IP5 IS OVERPRICED, many EG BB Z10 are vastly superior. The S 4Mini & BB Z10 are Dual Core phones masquerading as a Quad Core so impressive are the specs . Just behind them are Windows 8 phones, and those are the Dual Core phone of which the IP5 is.
And we have not even mentioned the Quad Core phones which the IP5 costs MORE to get

Apple is years behind

Good Photo Editing Apps for Galaxy s4?

sayra

I need a good editing app for galaxy s4.
Specifically one that has a pale effect. Please and thank yooouu

Answer
there are several good photo editing apps for galaxy s4. they are described below,

1.Snapseed
Snapseed is the one of the best photo apps out there for editing and cropping photos. It makes any photograph extraordinary with a fun, high-quality photo experience right at your fingertips. With Snapseed you can share photos to social networks and even edit photographs better than Photoshop. Snapseed is a wonderful app and should be at the top of your editing list.

2.Photo Editor by Aviary
is a fantastic photo editing app that lets you edit like a pro. Similiar to Snapseed, the app has a beautiful UI. In comparison to other apps out there, it lacks features, but it is very easy to use.

3.BeFunky Photo Editor
Looking for an insane number of editing features for your S4? Check out BeFunky, the app is great and has a ridiculous amount of filters and frames. Out of all the editing/filter apps out there, BeFunky is probably the most fully-featured. BeFunky Photo Editor can be found here in Google Play.

4.Adobe Photoshop Touch
For those loyal to Photoshop and Adobe, Adobe Photoshop Touch is a great option for editing. The app is similiar to Snapseed and allows for high-level, professional editing. Adobe Photoshop Touch for the HTC One can be found here in Google Play.

I really like taking pictures on my phone, and i need some editing apps. i want apps that have like hipster edits or like good vibe edits and some with like the yin yang symbol. So please help thank you!

Answer
There are tons of great photo apps for the iPhone and iPad.

Photo Editor - Snapseed is a comprehensive photo app that you'll wind up using every day. Photoshop mobile is another editor to consider. And Befunky is great too with the addition of more fun editing features.

Swap Photo Parts - With Juxtaposer you can take one part from one photograph and add that part into a second photo.

Panoramic Photos - Pano features the ability to take 360-degree panoramas using up to sixteen photos with a semi-transparent guide helps you line up each shot perfectly. With Pano's alignment tools, blending, and colour-correction algorithms provide you can really get seamless images in just seconds - I have been amazed.

Text on Photos - Photophrase blends beautiful typography with pictures to create unique images you can share. You can use Photophrase for photo captioning, photo sharing, and just plain photo fun.

Funny Faces - Faceship offers tons of face-changing effects! Besides the TinyFace, effects include a bubbleface, square head, nerd glasses (with enlarged eyeballs!), catface, the best moustache ever, some crazy mirror effects, horrible zits, sad face and happy faces, fat neck, and a bunch more. Another option is PhotoGoo which lets you turn your photos to Goo! Create funny facial expressions from your friends faces.

Un-crop - If you've ever taken a hasty photo on your phone and didn't leave enough room on the outside, AntiCrop is the app can uncrop those photos by filling in the edges with just a few swipes.

iPhone questions...?

Mike

I'm thinking of getting an iPhone and I have a few questions.

I always thought using the internet on a cell phone costs money, but according to my friend it doesn't. is this true?

Cingular has the two-year contract discount for phones. Does that discount cover iPhones as well?

Does it work just like an iPod does when plugged into iTunes?

Also, does anyone have a list of functions or applications on the iPhone?

Thanks for the help!!

Answer
Hi, I'm a Sales Rep with At&t/Cingular...and an avid iPhone User!!!

Your friend is half right...the iPhone has a wifi receiver on the phone that allows you to access the internet anywhere a wifi (wireless router) connection is available. However, at&t charges $30/month for the use of data from their network on the iPhone, and REQUIRES that you add the $30 package to your account when you sign the contract for the iPhone.

Currently, the iPhone 3G is being subsidized by At&t when purchased with a new 2 year service agreement, such that you get the $500+ phone for $199 in the store. This subsidy has only recently gone into effect (with the launch of the new iPhone 3G in July), and is only available to customers who are currently able to "upgrade" their phone by signing a new 2 year contract.

The iphone (in it's latest firmware version) works exactly like an ipod when synced with iTunes 7.7 or higher. There are a few differences associated with increased functionality of the phone over a regular iPod though...for example, the iphone has options for syncing email/calendars via outlook, purchasing/installing ringtones for the device, and downloading/installing 3rd party applications from the itunes app store.

Here's a quick rundown of the standard features/apps on the iphone:
Push/Pull email over the phone (for most email providers)
YouTube Client
Itunes Store (you can purchase/download music and apps directly to the phone even when disconnected from the computer)
Google Maps (With GPS Location)
2 MP Camera
A Clock App (with timer, stopwatch, alarm clock, & world clock)
A calendar/Address Book
A Weather App (To view Local Weather Conditions)
And a Photo Viewer

These are just the basics of the phone, for more information, visit http://www.phonescoop.com for a more complete list of specifications for the iPhone.

In addition to the apps listed above, there are countless FREE applications available for download via the itunes app store.

Let me know if you have any further questions or need further clarification on any of the above.

Good Luck,

CB

Questions about family portraits, iphone apps, and dslr triggers?

Taylor Sla

Hi!

This question actually includes multiple questions. I am trying to do family portraits for my own family, and I wanted to be included in them. I need to buy a remote trigger, because I'm not into the whole "self-timer, run back into the shot" thing. So, are there any reliable triggers that don't cost as much as pocket wizards (preferably considerably cheaper), and could you please explain how to use them? (I know most have different directions).

Secondly, I have read about iphone apps that can trigger your dslr, but it must be connected to a computer. Are there any apps that you can use without a computer? I also have heard about an app that allows you too see the photos that you have shot straight from the dslr to the iphone, does anyone know the name of this?

Finally, does anyone have any suggestions on shooting famiily portraits? I'm not really excited about having to photograph myself, BUT i pretty much have to so any suggestions on how to make the experience more enjoyable would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much!! By the way, I will be shooting with a canon 60d and a canon 70-200 f/2.8 lens if that helps.
For the last question, Ihave experience in shooting portraits. I guess what I'm asking for is tips for shooting portraits with myself included, kind of like a self-family portrait.

Answer
Why not just use the Canon made product for $22?

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/683524-REG/Canon_4524B001_RC_6_Wireless_Remote_Control.html

Can't help you about the iPhone.

Suggestions about family portraits could fill a book, and has! ha ha. Lighting, composition, depth of field, focus, posing, scene / background. It is really beyond the scope of this box to try to teach it all here. Probably your best bet would be to watch the many videos on You Tube about portraiture and also here is a good site about what NOT to do!

Why can't I download apps on my iPhone?

armani21

I have the iPhone 3. Just bought it used. It won't let me download all the nice apps. It tells me iOS. I want to download apps like talk free. I really need a app that's free talk without having to buy credits on the iPhone 3 . Also it has a camera but doesn't have rec. WTF? Like yyy?

Answer
May be the apps you are trying to download does not support for iPhone 3....
Check the minimum requirement of the app you are trying to download in your 3G.

Using iPhone3 you cant record video using default camera but you can try Camera Plus free app which can be used to record videos in your 3G and it has got video and photo effects.
Its the best app especially for recording in 3G.

What is the best (free) photo editing app for the iPhone?

Jodie

Preferably for the 4s.

Answer
if you are looking at FREE apps, then my suggestion is going to be to download several, evaluate, and choose your favorite. I mean, lets face it, you are not going to get photoshop level editing on your iphone. The apps are basically all presets, i have seen some that allow user adjustments but i havent seen anything that I would actually use in my real work flow as a photographer, or that I would do anything with other than waste some time while I am waiting somewhere.

iPhone 4s vs IPhone 5?

Elizabeth

I am a frequent texter, and my current phone is a piece of junk. I haven't really heard about huge issues with the phone shutting off or having huge malfunctions, such as mine does
I'm currently deciding between the two.
For those of you that have had one or know someone who owns one, which one would be better for someone who spends a lot of time texting, occasional phone calls, and not a huge app user. Im not really going to load music on it, either.
Thank you!

Answer
Specs, the iPhone 5 kills the 4s, the processor on the 4s is a dual core 800MHz A5 chip, 5 has 1.3GHz A6 chip. Clear win for the 5 if you want gaming and less lag issues. Screen on the 4s is 3.5" and on the 5 is 4". 5 also has 1136x640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi whereas 4s has 960x640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi. Another clear win for the iphone 5 for gamers. iPhone 5 is also lighter and also still fits easy in the pocket.Basically, for the average user for calls and texts, rarley apps, then the 4s but if you are planning on gaming and taking photos, then definetly the 5.

What options does iPhone camera's have ?

Ama T

Like do they have , different colors or zooming , resolution , brightness anything ? I got the iPhone yesterday & I'm still trying to learn how to use it , feel free to give my any tips on iPhone's in general .
BTW , I love taking pictures , so yea & I edit them .

Answer
You have a digital zoom (but no optical zoom), LED flash and 'tap to focus' autofocus as standard.

There are several apps which give you further options however... You can get apps to increase the digital zoom, add photo 'scenes', change the camera mode to sepia, black and white etc... and you can even edit your photos FOR FREE on the Adobe Photoshop app that I can HIGHLY recommend!

If you would like further tips or if you'd like to ask any further questions then feel free to ask at the DrTechKnow forums.(http://www.DrTechKnow.com/forums/ )

Hope this has helped!

Citrify, iPiccy, PicMonkey, Ribbet, FotoFlexer or Lunapic are great all round web based and FREE editing tools. Adobe, makers of the expensive Photoshop, has a free website version in Photoshop Express. If you are a former Picnik user than Picmonkey and Ribbet will be your best choices.

What are some good apps on iPhone 4,?

jasmine

Hello! I've been trying to find some good apps to edit pictures with, like blending, cutting, ect. I just can't really seem to be finding anything that works well. Please give me some good apps? :)

With FACE SWITCH you can do just that, switch faces between multiple photos.

I see all these people's pictures and they're amazing, for example, I will see a picture of someone, and it looks like they've drawn a cartoon Indian hat on their hand. Another one looked like a girl courtseying, but her skirt was see through, and you could see the city. One more was a girl, with a shape outlining the picture, like a triangle or circle, and it had this really cool text. And the last one I saw that I liked, was a girls eye but her pupil had the galaxy pattern. Does ANYONE know what apps they do to use these? Thanks!

iphone froze with apple screen

GRAND T

i bought a iphone on craiglist it wasn't activated at that time. then i unlocked and jailroken it. then everything works. i did the system restore to clear all data files and photos after 2 hours the screen is in apple logo. i tried to reset nothing works.

i checked the serial number it is still under warranty until 2009 february.
1. since it is unlocked I never had att, does the apple store replace the phone (idont have receipt).

2. do i have to buy att and activate with them first

Answer
NEVER JAILBREAK AN IPHONE

there is apple iphone 2.0.1 software that has all the features and its guaranteed to work. Jailbreaking often KIlls the phone.

JAILBREAKING VOIDS the warrantyn immediately and so you now have a brick thats not warranty-able. you might be able to recover this by removing the jailbreak.

Jailbroken ipods cause so many problems (just search on here for them). It alters the boot code so its not really an ipod at all.

Best option is to remove the jailbreak by restoring the ipod on your computer but NOT connected to internet as latest non 2.0 upgrade is 1.1.4 and updating from jalibroken 1.2.3 to 1.1.4 will BRICK your unit (DEAD forever).

once you have restored it to 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 connect computer to internet and BUY the 2.0 upgrade at £5.99 its worth it as it legally has most of the games and apps you have now (2.0 can be jailbroken but many dont bother as 2.0 has everything they want.

with itunes running reset your ipod (menu and centre key held until screen goes blank with dark apple logo). then as soon as the screen lights up connect it to computer. (if touch its the home and power key until screen goes black /apple).

it should then work OK but to be safe restore it anyway@!

once you have this then get it to your local (ATT ?) iphone authorise network to get it activated and have a SIM and contract or Pay as You Go setup.

How much memory do i need for my iphone?

Carley

I am upgrading my old samsung eternity to the iphone 3gs this week. i have the ipod touch 3rd gen 8 gb and its already half full with just music and apps. My samsung has racked up nearly 2000 photos over the 2 years ive had it . I know the 8 gb iphone can hold aprox 2000 photos if all you have is photos, no contacts, no music, no apps. If i got the 3gs iphone 8gb, would that be enough to last my 2 years? can i add more memory? can i alter the quality of the images to take up less space? how much dose the 16 gb cost?

Answer
When the iphone 4 was introduced the 16GB+ Models of the iphone 3GS was phased out and the 8GB model was introduced. 8GB is just fine if your touch is half full.
