i would like to take a new profile picture and i usually use a camera timer on my iphone to take photos of myself and they turn out alright but it is time consuming and its pretty tedious propping my phone up everywhere and trying to get the right angle. what do you guys do? (by the way, no i don't have anybody to take the photos for me :) id like my photos to look more like i was actually modeling in them so i dont want that awkward arm up that lets everyone know ive been taking pictures of myself. If theres any techniques or apps of tricks or tips you have for me it would be greatly appreciated :) thank you

The best way is actually the way you are doing it. Taking a picture in a mirror looks like you were too lazy to use the timer that all cameras come with. If you want your pictures to look even semi-professional then it really isn't that big of a hassle to set up the camera and use the timer -considering that it looks a thousand times better. There's nothing wrong with doing things the way that's a bit more complicated especially if the results are worth the effort. If you are showing off outfits on a fashion site or clothes you have made on a craft or design site then definitely continue to use your timer. If you are putting together a modelling portfolio then most definitely take the extra time to set up the camera and do it right.

A real digital camera -rather than a phone camera might be a good investment. Get one with a screen that can be flipped out and one that can be hooked up to a remote so you can press a button and the picture is taken without you moving. With the flip out screen so you can see the pose you are taking, then press the button and your picture is snapped. Another thing froma camera shop that might work with your i-phone is a tripod. You set the camera on a tripod and you don't need to prop it up, the tripod will hold it in place and it's far more stable than whatever you are using now. Here's one that's designed for i-phones: http://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Tripod-camera-Holder-Cellphone/dp/B0042J6VUS/ref=sr_1_1?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1326377764&sr=1-1

The one picture I hate the most is the one with someone standing in a bathtub, taking a picture in the mirror with the camera covering the face and a blinding flash in the mirror. If it's the only option you have then turn off the flash, use photoshop to blur out the bathtub, hold the camera so it doesn't cover the face and for god's sake turn off the flash. Ironically, taking a picture in a mirror and using photoshop is MORE time consuming then setting up a camera on a tripod and using a timer. You think you are saving time, but you aren't. I contribute to several "should I wear this" and "does this look stupid" sites and I see the bathtub picture all the time. The flash makes it difficult to see the person or the outfit. In some cases myself and other contributors will not even take bathtub flash pictures out of the queue and put them on the main site.

Best smartphone to use with mac--apart from iphone ;-)?

Hi everyone,

Okay, so I think it may be time for me to join the smartphone crowd <g>. Not so much for the phone part, but for the rest of it--specifically for the internet access and easy emailing and IMg, mainly. I would also like to use it to read ebooks, to watch some videos, and store some of my pictures as a sort of very portable portfolio <g>. Finally, it would have to be a decent stand-in for my ipod nano, in terms of both sound quality and ease of use, because it would be a bit of a pain to carry two devices especially when one will be on the bigger side :-) (like to keep my purses tiny!)

Any other solutions that play nice with macs, are available in Europe, have applications you can use to customize for pretty cheap, don't have keys that are too tiny, and also do wifi because European phone providers skin us on data charges <g>? I like the iphone a lot, but I just wanna hedge my bets, make sure there's nothing better ;-)

Thanks!!

I can only vouch for the Blackberry, having never used the Iphone (but would lov to try it!)

I went to Italy last fall, and used the World Edition Blackberry. It was the best travel tool I've ever had. I always had service, never had a problem with my phone, and was able to GTalk with my daughter here at home with absolutely no problem. I converted currency, I shared photos of my family and stuff, I got directions, had complete internet access, including watching videos on YouTube, I accessed documents I stored on google notebook or documents. It was GREAT! I will never travel overseas again without one! The only downfall of the world edition is no camera. The keyboard is great, the screen is a good size. No complaints, other than the camera part. I traded it in for a Blackberry Curve when I got home, just for the camera.

As far as applications for the Blackberry, the Crackberry.com site has all kinds of great things for free and for pay. You can also get quite a few apps from the Blackberry site itself. It just depends on what you want and need.

As another good report on the BB--my daughter also has a BB curve. About a week and a half ago, she set her BB on the soap dish on the wall above the sink. it was on vibrate, someone called and it vibrated itself right into the sink of water. She was VERY upset, of course, assuming that this was the end of her Blackberry, but she took the battery out right away and we went to the Crackberry.com forum where you can search for others who have posted questions or ask your own. It said let it dry for awhile, and with luck it will work again. That's what she did--and turned it on last Friday and it works fine! (she was so relieved!). So that shows it's a pretty well made device, to survive not only a crash but a dip, too!

http://crackberry.com/ You can get anything you want to know about the Blackberry there, and talk to some real BB experts. They talk about all the latest and greatest, if it has to do with BB.
Free ringtones and wallpapers, too.

I hereby recommend a Blackberry!
