Hi,
I'm have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.1 running a greenp01son jailbreak for it.
I want to upgrade to iOS 5 now and keep my app store apps, photos, contacts etc (don't care about jailbroken apps). How would I do this? Do I back it up, then restore it then update it then rejailbreak it? Thanks for the help!
Answer
You can use a third party program in order to backup your iPhone audio and video tracks as well as apps to your PC. Then just apply the update. Here is more on backing up various types of data from your iPhone to your PC:

iphone jailbroken 3.1.3?

elvis
hi i bought this iphone on ebay used it is jailbroken to 3.1.3 it came with apps and music and photos from the other user when i connect it to my itunes library. when i try and put my music it says that it will delete all the stuff it has but if i put that will it delete it from being jailbroken i didnt put restore to factory settings i just dragged a song into it and it said that
Answer
The music/photos will definitely delete. Every time an iphone connects to a different itunes, it wipes everything off in respect with what you're trying to sync.
Try to transfer purchases to see if you can save the apps but most definitely everything else will go. Apart from the jailbreak itself.
And try not to update to 4.0 otherwise you'll lose the jailbreak and maybe the unlock if it is operational via the jailbreak.
