How can i merge my photos together?

i love to make videos and everything using a Mac OS X Version 10.6.8. i use the program iMovie.
i have seen people put like multiple pictures in one single picture. how can i do that? are their applications for an iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1? PLEASE HELP!!!! Thanks! :)

Are there any good free photo editing apps in the apple app store? And also are there any apps such as Pic Stitch that allow you to combine photos but it doesn't add the white border? Thanks so much!
