Planning a wedding that's out of state?

I am graduating college in May 2013 and my fiance and I would like to get married either later in May or in early June. We decided to get married in his home state of Michigan. We're currently in Connecticut. I'm wondering how I can plan from Connecticut? Like the reception hall, catering, etc. when I'm not there to see anything myself?

When my parents were planning their wedding, my dad was in Vietnam fighting a war - without email and all that jazz. My mom managed to include him in the planning through letters and photos. If they could plan a wedding in the 60's from across the world, you can plan one in 2012 from a few states away! Use family, friends, the internet, Skype, the phone, iPhone apps, whatever helps - and then you'll have to travel to Michigan to make your final decisions. You can also hire a wedding planner in Michigan to help you out if you feel the need. Sites like The Knot and Brides.com can help a lot too.
